I wonder how each of us would view a Democratic lead ATF doing warrantless home entries in red states in 2029?

You support that right? As long as it's federal law enforcement, can't be anything wrong there.

If you can condone labeling someone a domestic terrorist to justify killing someone in the street it's time to take a look at where this country is headed and who is next. We have openly injected partisan politics into federal law enforcement to be pointed at US citizens. How sure are you that it won't be getting pointed at you and the ones you love?

When it comes to folks’ reactions to today’s event, the Internet is a dark place. Some sad stuff.

Normies - the median voters - are going to be rendering this administration the lamest of ducks in less than a year. I wish it could come sooner, but I’d bet today’s tragedy results in another government shut down. I don’t think seven D’s are gonna fund DHS (even though it will continue to be funded via slush fund) until a few heads roll.

It's out of hand. Some of yall jump to conclusions faster than buzz jumps on an elk tag. Let LE do their investigation. Come out swinging assuming the worst, burn your own cities to the ground. I haven't watched all the angles. Its not my $*)Q!#@$ job to. It's incredible that supporting law enforcement is such a frowned upon stance. But also not surprising given the crowd here. Keep clutching the pearls to please the loudest of the group.

As a rule, I’ve never weighed in on political discussions on HT. But here goes.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone can watch the video from today and still support this initiative or this administration. What we’re seeing is state-sanctioned violence, carried out with near-total immunity. Whether or not it’s ever labeled “murder” in a courtroom, the lack of accountability should alarm anyone paying attention. There is no excuse for it.

I shudder to think about what this means locally. All signs point to an ICE holding facility reopening in Weld County, using the old Hudson prison. That alone should concern people, especially given that Colorado has a higher number and a higher percentage of undocumented immigrants than states like Minnesota. Increased enforcement here is not hypothetical, it’s predictable.

Trump clearly has another axe to grind with Polis, just as he did with Walz, due to the Tina Peters situation which only underscores the hypocrisy. Peters was convicted of doing the very thing January 6th apologists spent years falsely claiming was happening in elections, yet somehow she’s been turned into a political martyr instead of a cautionary tale.

I’ve worked with numerous families over the years who are exactly the kind of people caught in the crosshairs of this kind of enforcement. Well over half of the families in my school would directly affected by ICE presence here, not because of their legal status, but because of the color of their skin. This is not hyperbolic, this is reality. The mask is off. These are parents and kids I know personally, being treated as political leverage by vindictive, racist goons who seem to thrive on fear and intimidation. Some kind of leadership.

I can simultaneously recognize the importance of a secure border and have nothing but disdain for the doctrine, tactics, and execution currently being used by this administration and ICE. Those positions are not mutually exclusive.

What is astounding is the hypocrisy from people rushing to defend any of this, no matter how extreme it becomes.

When this almost inevitably escalates in my local area, and starts directly affecting kids I’ve dedicated my career to serving, I’m going to be forced into some very difficult decisions.

I sincerely hope that what is happening here does not come to your community. It’s truly heartbreaking.

Here's multiple angles all at once to help you out.

I believe most people do support law enforcement as long as the LEO's don't trash our constitutional rights, like the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and probably a few more that have been trounced in the past few weeks.

The thing that used to be great about the U.S. is our freedoms and constitutionally protected rights. Seems that doesn't apply anymore.

Can you give examples of what difficult decisions you’ll be forced to make? Just curious is all.

I support neither side. But common sense and perspective has to override the pretense of what is taking place. MN is currently 2% of total US deportations, TX is over 20%. Where are “American patriots” protecting their neighbors interfering, agitating and protesting in these non sanctuary cities? Let’s be real. The “protesters” being arrested in each of these cities across the US aren’t residents of those cities. They are paid. How are a 1000+ people showing up with matching $200+ gas masks immediately to incident events consistently? Shame how saturated we’ve become with knee jerk reactions due to over saturation of falsities perpetrated by the media and social media. Shame on human condition to react how we do, be so ignorant and inconsiderate to actual humans. Hell, humans care more about wolves “supposedly” killing elk. Pathetic.

Do I agree with people being profiled? Absolutely not, just as I don’t agree with people calling conservatives fascists nazis. It’s all propaganda and the minority has bought into it. Let’s be real, the “majority” get up, go to work, care for their family and are NOT going to go to a protest armed, blowing whistles, honking horns, blocking roadways of a law enforcement operation and feel they may putting their life or freedom on the line. It’s absurd and nonsense. Common sense tells a sane person I am not going to put myself in that situation.

If local officials worked with federal investigations, ie; last known addresses, criminal records, associates, etc, etc.. then provided crowd control or a perimeter where federal officers could perform operations without constant aggression which they are harassed, doxed, berated, assaulted while trying to detain illegal people in this country we wouldn’t have any of this happening. Put yourself in their situation, if you were trying to find the loopholes of the IRS for your client, meanwhile 100s of people were blowing, whistles, pulling your chair, turning off your CPU, recording you, calling you a racist, nazi, etc. This mental health crisis is real in the US.

I am Independent, I know both sides are lying. I know all the wasteful spending and corruption will continue by both sides. But I sure as F am not going put myself or family interfering with a law enforcement situation whether it be a stranger or my own. Comply and fight in court.

Purposely interfere with any law enforcement “just because”… you IMO deserve the outcome.

I get it.

The state of affairs in and around the minneapolis area is far from supportive of law enforcement. Ever since the George Floyd ordeal its been a disaster here. We have a governor who has a track record of failing. The mayor of minneapolis is a complete bozo. None of our politicians will work with or provide assistance to federal agents.

Does it give anyone a right to shoot an innocent person? Hell no. I think a little positive leadership and cooperation from the governor and mayor would go a long ways. There wouldn't be bus loads of people running the streets creating even more stress on the workers.

Chaos and confusion lead to incidents like we saw today. That's all the protests are causing, more chaos and more confusion.

Deciding if community means anything when unaccountable government power shows up, or only when it’s someone else’s problem. This country was founded and shaped by citizens who refused to stay silent and obey when told, and as someone who teaches how our government is supposed to work, I’m not going to be a hypocrite who talks in a classroom about the importance of our rights but never exercises them.
