I had planned on combing a yearly Black hills spring turkey hunt with a few days over in the Ashland Mt district of the Custer national forest. I like seeing new terrain and its another opportunity to hunt turkeys. I was looking a t reserving one of the 1 of the 2 forest service cabins but im a little hesitant do to last years fire. Thoughts?

Staying at the cabins is a good idea, but you will have to travel a ways to find any birds. Numbers have been down the last few years, but they can be found along the rivers. Numbers were low before the fires and guessing after hurt. I haven't been down as of late but may be best to try the Alzada or Ekalaka area. The closer to the Hills area should provide more birds.
