Just got back from the first season rifle in area 79 in Co. I along with my group of five others( all dedicated and hard hunters) had a great time camping in the area. the hunting was bad if not worse, we hunted from sunup to sun down , and the only elk we saw crossed the road in front of us in area681 and 9:30 pm.. the last two days of hunting me and one other guy actually heard a bugle, and a few cow calls. We were about 5.5 miles from the nearest road/ trail. we talked with a resident that hunts that area exclusively, he said they had a major elk kill two winters ago from the weather, and the heard never recovered. well my two cents are about up, so ood luck to the rest of you'll, and God Bless.

Wow, sounds like a tough hunt. Glad to hear you had a great time with the camping part. Hope your next elk hunt has better results for the freezer.
