Anyone else getting antsy?

I see you’re eastern TN. Will you hunt the early velvet hunt?
No. It’s a private land only hunt. Most of the land that I hunt is public, and bow season to me is just getting a doe or two in the freezer early. Too much heat, humidity, and mosquitoes to take it seriously that early. If they let me take a doe on public land then I may consider, but the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes would probably keep me away anyhow.

Just hunting my home state of Montana as I do most years. That said I'm always antsy and excited to see what the year will hold for me.

This year will be my first year hunting with a recurve and I will be giving it my all to put a bull on the ground in September.

Good luck to all!

Im going to hunt a couple days of grouse season, 3 days of elk in late Oct, and a long weekend mule deer hunt for my daughter. Im working out of state so my time will mostly be spent watching the kids in sports and doing some fall fishing where Im working at. I do plan to chase some coons and bobcat this winter with my hound. Good luck to those going on extended trips.

Probable OIL AZ archery tag, leaving in under 6 weeks. Haven't researched anything or looked over maps in 2 months, havn't touched my bow since last Sept. Havn't worked out. Havn't packed gear. Havn't worked on truck or trailer or ATV. I don't know WHAT is up. I'll get my act together somehow, soon, but this is alarming.... I was completely consumed by all the years of research and the wait and the various draws... but now... barely giving it a 2nd thought. I just want to go, have some fun, shoot a probable dink, and get home. Think I am just burned out by trying so long to get to this opportunity and the constant pushing of the boulder uphill to make it happen, and the way I have to do it there back and everywhere in between the hard way. Get a great tag and then I apparently just wing it for the scenic drive. Good grief!

Not one bit. MIGHT buy a hunting license this year. Not much of a need to seeing how I only would get a few doves or a rabbit here at home. Better to be legal I guess. About the only thing I'll do is pick up a case of shotgun shells at Bass Pro and use some of the points that I've accumulated.

I am antsy for sure. I had a pretty extensive nasal surgery 5.5 weeks ago and have been trying to stay fit for the season. It has limited a lot of my summer. I planned the operation around hunting and hockey.

-Aug 15 ewe bighorn archery in WY (Oct 1 rifle but my 12-year-old daughter really wants to tag along for archery so I figure I'll go ruin some arrows on the rocks behind the sheep)
-Sept 8 mountain goat in CO
-Then helping with sister-in-law who drew bull moose in the unit I live in in ID. (Aug 30 opener until mid-Nov, but I won't get serious until end of Sept.)
-Add some OTC stuff with my kids and it should be a good season.

Pro tip: don't get nasal surgery it sucks

What’s your first hunt and how long until it starts? - Fortunately we don't have seasons, so hunt all year. I would definitely be antsy if I had to wait to hunt! Got a taste of limited hunted in COVID when I wasn't able to hunt for a number of months, didn't like that!
What hunt are you most excited about? - CO mule deer in Oct.
Whats a season goal this year? - See some mule deer and shoot one! And do some scouting for CO elk while I travel the state.
Any new piece of gear you’re excited to try? - Nothing new for me. I don't buy a lot of new gear, just keep the same gear (or replacement) most years.

This year my #1 goal is Elk , my #2 goal is Elk , #3 goal is Elk etc etc etc ….

Right now hunting Elk it’s the farthest thing from my mind , it used to be the opposite it consumed me ….. I’m just enjoying summer and running around Montana , Wyoming and South Dakota going to Rodeos , Street dances and concerts, Elk Season is gonna be there waiting for me … I did some scouting/research back in late spring… all the best laid plans are ready ….

I took 4 weeks off this year to hunt, I have Oct 24 - Nov 1st off , go back to work for 5 days , then off Nov 7th till Nov 29th ….

After getting my 6x5 WT last fall could careless if I get a deer this year, my goal is try to get my 1st mature 6 point Bull Elk , I’ve taken 5 elk in the ten season since I started hunting them but a mature 6 point bull is the last goal on my list of unaccomplished personal goals…… once mid October gets here then I’ll start getting a little wound up…. And change my focus

Good luck to everyone this fall with all your hunts goals and dreams…

I didn't like reading this and really hope you can regain your passion. Maybe include a friend or youth somehow? Go to the local archery club and mingle with avid hunters and archers? You don't want to look back on this and regret not putting forth a great effort on a great tag! Maybe watch a couple of hunting videos?

Gonna be a busy fall for me. I have an antelope buck hunt starting August 20th, a 2 week trip to Reno in mid Sept. Maybe I'll be able to get some dove hunting in while were there. 🫰
A mulie buck hunt in mid Oct. and my son is getting married in late Nov. 🥳
Also my brother has an AZ deer tag but I don't know yet when that hunt will be. Hopefully we can squeeze it in.

Very antsy. Season kicks off in six weeks with a three week trip to northern British Columbia for moose for me. Then back to CO for elk (2 tags) and deer (2 tags) from mid-October through end of November. Rifle and archery ranges are getting a lot of attention.
