Anyone else getting antsy?

Muzzle loader deer starts September 10. I have a couple days scouting in so far. We went fishing and camping last weekend in a unit I can hunt, which also resulted in seeing some bucks. Nothing mature, but fun, nonetheless.

Also saw some quail in that area, so may try that this fall as well, along with chukar and huns.

My daughter will participate in the youth bird hunt end of September.

Then lions and bobcats through the winter.

I’ve been too busy to get too excited. Usually by the time hunting season gets here it is often more of a relief than excitement. By the time I get unwound enough to be excited it’s over. Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to it and try to plan well, but life just seems to get in the way of the excitement anymore.

Wyoming deer in a little over 2 months.

Local deer hunting at the beginning of November… thankfully it’s a long season

Leave in 64 days for my SD antelope hunt. I'm sure I'll do some dove hunting the first week of September here at home as well.

Most excited by far and away for my Oklahoma elk hunt. Been a dream of mine for over half my life to kill a elk in my home state. One of my long term hunting goals I came up with after reading chuck Adam's super slam in high-school was to kill the Oklahoma big 5 (whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, elk, black bear). If I'm successful I'll only have black bear left.



Besides the elk my other main goal is to get my son a nice buck this year.



Can't think of anything new as far as hunting or camping gear this year. Of course still time to remedy that.

I’m excited for the elk hunt.

Wife and I will be kicking off hunting season in 2 weekends with a limit of squirrels.

Sept 1 - Blue Grouse

Then the youth hunt with my boy in mid-Oct for mountain whitetail.

I’m always jacked for November, and will once again probably have more days off for 5 weeks than work. That’s a goal I’ve achieved for the last 5 years or so.

I might be just as excited for December trapping as anything this year. Got new traps to try, new sets, new spots.

I’m foaming at the mouth for trapping season. Trust me, I get it!

Just talked to the biologist for my elk area. That added fuel to my fall fever. It is somewhere between raging house inferno and medium sized forest fire right now.

Leave Aug 29th for SW AK rainbow trout.
ID Rifle bull elk starts Oct 1, will be there a couple days early.
Wife has a local rifle cow elk tag that goes 10/10-12/31. We'll focus more on late season.
Local mountain whitetail hunting in Nov.
Belize flats fishing in mid-Jan.

Most excited for my bull tag. I need more range time and could be more prepared. But not stressing out about it like I have with some tags in the past. Just want to spend some solid long days in the mountains with some fun elk encounters.

A friend has NV silver state elk tag so looking forward to updates on that this next week. Who would pass up a 380" bull on the first day?

I’m getting antsy too.

I have that elk hunt with @El Jason in October, happened to draw a pretty coveted bull tag this year.

Also have a nephew’s youth cow tag on the other side of the river. Could be a bit spicy with the fires. I prepped him this week that we may have to give his tag back. Our private ground access there is now evacuated.

My usual deer season will be during my elk hunt, so another year of mule deer taking a back burner.

Also been talked into going hard for both chukkar and steelhead this winter. So see how my knees hold up!

I’m getting very antsy. General archery elk in September. Going to Wyoming with my dad for antelope and mule deer in October, then I have some fun plans for Montana sheep and general elk and deer in October and November. Might spend a few days looking for a bear in September too.
