Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I mean, it's not getting any better thats for sure. We all know what he was getting at so, go back to pre covid and tell me what something cost now. To say this is new in the last year or two is R word dumb. Nobody has done much to slow it down.
And you can both be generally correct. COVID was crazy. But that was an external phenomenon. We (every country) shut down the world production system, told people to stay home, and then gave them money to spend on stuff. There was no way that was going to turn out well, but it did prevent a serious recession. So a win? The latest rise (to his point) is almost entirely self-induced. Tariffs on imports, creating wars on and between oil producers. All stupid ideas that didn't need to be done and accomplish nothing other than raising prices for the consumer.

I chuckle when I see people on HT complain about inflation. Sure it sucks, but members largely have enough disposable income to spend a few hundreds on the chance to get a tag somewhere which would cost several hundreds more and incur travel expenses that would ultimately push the cost easily to four digits. I'm not sure HT is representative of the country in terms of income.

Here is a fun chart to play with. Doesn't go back far enough to see what he 70's looked like but should cover most of your working career. In 2015-16 they were trying hard to get inflation up. We now have a new Fed Chair that has some new ideas on how to run an economy, so rest easy.
The things people see the most- gasoline, food at home, and food away from home. The best item that reflects tariff impact is Apparel. Services is what the avg American thinks they can get in the marketplace. The main problem is that shelter is about 45% of the total and isn't insightful into the cost of housing.

Hardly, didn't prevent anything imo. Just prolonged possibly inflated it. Time will tell.
It undoubtedly prevented a severe and prolonged recession- let's call it 18mo with a 5% decline in GDP, which is a little worse than average but probably reasonable given the supply chains shut down across the globe. But it created another other problem - inflation. We have to acknowledge the tradeoff, because everything in economics is a tradeoff. "Was it worth it?" is not really a question that can be answered because YMMV. Today we have to tell ourselves we are safer from nuclear annihilation every time we fill up the gas tank.

Time may not tell for a while because the government response to anything that might be painful is "send everyone a check". I would agree that eventually that hits the wall of reality and no one will be able to avoid the consequences. I believe my views on this are clear, this Admin intends to inflate away the debt problem as best they can.

Well only a couple more years, then hopefully the next guy will square it all away.

IF that was all the next guy had to clean up, wouldn't that be a great thing?

Unfortunately....high fuel prices, ballroom, reflecting pool, 2 wars, infrastructure, housing, foreign relations, military, health care, land management, are all in the chit right now (to name a few). Those things are going to take years, if not decades to repair after this clown show.

Inflation is doing you a favor if you still have a mortgage, own a house. Pay it off while it is easy.

One things for sure the next guy will promise to clean it up and then not do shit. Besides blame the last guy nothing new to see here. Housing was shit under the last guy, so was healthcare, fuel prices weren't much different either as I recall and we've been at war since i was in high school. There isn't a president since I've been old enough to vote that has done much of anything for the middle class that they haven't undone simultaneously with some other bs move. This administration has been a shitshow no doubt. To act like any other administration hasn't been a shit show in comparison to there predecessor, baffles me. So I guess what im saying is until everyone knocks off the partisan bs it's only gonna get worse regardless the letter in front of the name. Don't see that happening so looking forward to watching my kids future circle the drain i guess.

Yes having groceries cost more than my house, property taxes and home owners is awesome. Im loving it.
LOL, BTDT. I know how that feels but it is still true. Inflationary times, I've often had my "house" make more in year than I did.

Pay off that mortgage if you have one. It is like an investment guaranteed to pay 10% dividend every year.

Rich people don't sit around lounging on top of piles of cash or debt either. Does anyone think Elon Musk is keeping an old mortgage load "just for the tax savings"?

Ok

Gas has been and is up what 60% since then? ( I acknowledge gas was an all time low in 2020 but it's still has been and remains up )

30% for vehichles. And before jack ryan the ultra boomer butts in not everyone has to buy a new vehichle but we all need transportation for work so I think.that number is relevant whether buying new buying used or repairing your current mode of transportation. We can't all ride a $*)Q!#@$ tabogan to work like I'm sure he did.

Homeowners and vehichle insurance has risen 50%

Those are just 3 other things that come to mind of things we have to buy everyday.
I'm pretty sure Icoukld keep the list going. But I'll try to tell the kids there eating too much. 🤣

Inflation has never been as high as the increases I mentioned. Inflation isnt causing 30% increases in ONE year...thats very unique to Trump and his Tariffs...
