Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Anyone believe Dalio’s take that the control of the strait of Hormuz determines the future of American hegemony? If we walk away we are walking away from hegemony and capital flight from the USA will follow? I might have that off a bit. Tried to find a link but google it
Pretty sure that is happening already, and it started in April 2025. Foreign capital will never leave the US completely, but we have seen foreign countries put reserves go into gold, US treasury holding decline, and build new trading relationships with partners that will further the general trend. It is what I am concerned about the most with this Admin. They destroyed or at least significantly changed a system that put the US on top.

S&P futures before and after the speech. While “boots on the ground” wasn’t explicitly mentioned, the undertones were there and the market responded poorly.
Well, I guess the good news is that it was shorter than an episode of the Apprentice. About as informative though. My guess would be traders won’t want to be long going into the long weekend at the end of today. The cover of this week’s Economist is summarizing how this might play out to a quicker and positive direction.

Pick this one apart.

Iridium Communications (IRDM). It's well below it's 200 day, down 34% this year, but has a PE of 18, pays a solid 3% dividend. They have government contracts and just announced an additional partnership with Qualcomm. Forecasts are indicating earnings growth.

Interesting guest expert.

When are you going to finally break down and buy an EV? Tesla missed its delivery expectations, and could use some help.
"Interesting" seems like a compliment from you. He knew his stuff.

I don't drive much so fuel cost is the least of my problems. We already own a hybrid so if I want to save a little I just drive the wife's car. I certainly don't go crying on the internet about gasoline prices. Honestly, I'm surprised that gasoline isn't higher, $5-$6 Natl avg wouldn't surprise me at all. Certainly the federal gas tax which hasn't increased since 1993 should go up. Gotta keep the voters happy.

Regard going full EV, my intent is to wait for solid state batteries, which should be intro'ed in 12-36months. Production will ramp up on demand in other countries so we will lag on the adoption. Range is everyone's complaint and that will increase to 400-600miles and be comparable with trad gasoline, if not better. I'm sure some people will find another complaint because that's what they do. By 2030 the choice will make itself.

To Dalio's main point...Im not sure Hormuz is the tipping point for something more ominous, but it doesn't help this situation.

Oh, and the TSLA decline is probably from all those people that thought owning TSLA meant they owned a little Space X too. They found out that what they owned, maybe, was an "option to buy" at best. Elon has good lawyers and bankers.

If President Donald Trump ends the war with Iran without a deal, he risks leaving Tehran with a stranglehold over Middle East energy supplies and Gulf Arab oil and gas producers grappling with the fallout of a conflict they did not start or shape.
Instead of crushing Iran's theocratic rulers, it could leave them stronger, emboldened by surviving weeks of U.S.-Israeli attacks, firing on Arab Gulf states and rattling global energy markets by effectively shutting the ‌Strait of Hormuz.

Some of the tesla remorse is pretty comical.
From me? None present. BHR likes to play all sides with the hope getting people (mostly me) to bite. TSLA is interesting stock and company to watch given its following, but I have never owned it. Might have had a brief short or two. The cars get decent ratings, although they don't score well on longer term quality metrics. Similar with Rivian. Both are computers on wheels, so that might be the core problem. Genius and crazy are two sides of the same coin. When dealing with my money, I want companies with some mental stability, and less drugs, at the top.

No not you, unless you bought a tesla before the last election. I was referring to the vehichles themselves.

I was talking about owning a car, not their stock.

Economy isn't great? Elon's "Fun with DOGE" cut his TAM? Financing rates too high? Tell me when there is a fire sale on those vehicles. Most everything can be a buy at the right price. My daughter wants Mom to drive one because it has "Christmas mode". No idea what that is exactly but clearly kids in middle school discuss such things and feel they should be the ultimate decider on all these big decisions.

Are there any sales? Any cars that can handle snow (besides the ugly truck)?

I’ve been thinking of getting an electronic rig for my wife and I’s daily commute together. Cost probably outweighs the benefits. I haven’t had time to do the math.

Should have gobbled up Bidens tax credit when you had the chance. That's probably what Christmas mode means.

Good bye to the $7,500 EV tax credit. What’s that mean for EV prices? | CNN Business https://share.google/Dr0XbECup5d7i1hWh
