Cool pictures. The guys that fly those choppers have some serious stones.

We're going to see alot more of that the next few years. The area I hunt in Colorado, was almost completely brown and grey last season. The beetles have killed almost everything in the last 10 years. Drawing some of these areas will be a gamble.

Much the same above my place this evening. Since six or so it's spread to probably 1000-1500 acres. All the effort is on the houses down low and there's tons of timber for it to burn the other direction, could end up being a doozey.

Sounds like it's ripping up the Blackfoot pretty hard right now. It's been hot and windy all day, bad combo.

If it gets up into those basins around sheep mountain, that will make some good summer sheep range.

Sounds like my size estimate is a little on the high side, about ten times what the news is saying actually. I think they're way underestimating it though, it's a big chunk of real estate.

I'm sitting on my porch watching the flames in back of Jumbo right now. Kinda cool to watch it burn in the dark.

Still going pretty good when I drove past at six this morning. Looks like they'd knocked it out down low quite a bit, but there was quite the glow coming from the next drainage up the mountain. We're lucky we've had a eastward wind all night, otherwise Missoula would be like a chimney right now. Watch out Helena.

A friend of mine took this shot last night, pretty cool stuff.

It is smokey in Helena today. Watched the smoke roll in last night around 7. Made for a spectacular sunset.

Cool pics, why can't these things just start a few more miles to the west of you in the Selway, Lochsa or North Fork?

Don't be greedy, it's only been 101 years now :D

Our side burned pretty good ten years ago, you should come check it out some time.

Hopefully they get it put down in short order and everyone is kept safe when they do so. I know you have had a bunch of moisture (to put it mildly) up there this year and that should help. Hot and windy is a bad combo. Hoping for the best down here in dry land.

I look at some of those pretty burns every time I make it up that way and then I pop over Lolo Pass back into Idaho and just shake my head at all that old, even aged timber.
