Today was successful! My dad killed the buck on drive 1, my brother killed the buck on drive 2(his biggest ever), my father in law killed a buck on the final drive and to top it all off the buck my father in law killed was the deer that has been ripping my trees apart!!

Found 2 more sheds today.

The group harvested 4 bucks today. We are currently at 24 deer for the group in 2 days. I think 8 have been bucks.

Doing some meat cutting this morning before the hunters arrive. Today will be the last day of hunting for our group even though the season goes until tomorrow. I think everyone has the deer they want so today we will probably be selective and hold out for larger bucks! I saw a big one yesterday but he was at 250 yards and running across a field about as fast a deer can run, so no shot at him. Normally I cut deer on Wednesday, but it got to 8 degrees last night and when it’s that cold I can’t keep them from freezing in my shed. We skinned and quartered 3 deer last night and I’m doing 2 this morning. Tomorrow I will debone the meat and grind it.

1 buck today and it was a good one. The group is all done and have dispersed. It was a good season. We harvested 29 deer. The most hunters we had was Saturday at 18 hunters. Today we had 12 hunters.

One of the highlights for me is the food, laughs, and storytelling. I should have been better about documenting the food portion. Today for lunch I made turkey bacon ranch sliders. It was the first time making them so I was nervous, but there were non left. I of course used wild turkey but otherwise followed the recipe.

There are 2 shotgun seasons in Iowa. But you can only hunt in 1 of the seasons. My next deer season will be late muzzleloader starting December 20.

The sliders sound great. I ll be there midweek next week to scout for late muzzleloader. I have 4 vacation days to burn in the next 2 weeks.
