Interesting that everyone is against shootouts in hockey. They're the best part of soccer.

And this is exactly why I love the Olympics. We can all just be Americans or Canadians or whatever nationality you want, and root for your country. We come together as a world to compete against and celebrate each other. Nations send their best forward to advance comradery and competitive friendliness.

The Olympics in the modern era are supposed to be about bringing us all together as the human race. To celebrate our achievements, to root for those who represent our nations. The Olympics can still resemble what was good in the world, before we have to overly politicize everything and make even joy a partisan pile of pony pucks.

Funny. I’ve envisioned this scenario a hundred times today as I’m trying to decide whether to replace the valve cover on my truck this week or pay a mechanic $300 to do it.

They are a last resort in soccer. Tied after 2 45 minute halves, then 2 more 15 minute periods, gotta do something. Plus soccer usually devolves into 2 very tired teams trying not to lose.
