2025 Garden!

Sixmile. I've tried it nothing happened and it used to work well. Tried malathion and nothing really happened. I've got yellow sticky cards up all over inside the greenhouse. Went through a pint of Neem oil so far. Just bought more today.
Won't be planting back inside next season. Going to nuke the crap out of the ground when I'm done this fall and let it sit fallow for a year. Maybe that'll help.
When I had a greenhouse I drenched the entire inside: walls ceiling and floor with boiling water before planting. It worked well to control aphids.

Row covers help prevent weeds. I spent many hours last weekend weeding too. I had five boxes out of control. Now that it’s weeded, I need to spend some time each week maintaining.

I weedeat my paths. My next thought is laying down weed barrier and placing rocks. My lawn between the boxes idea has turned into a weed patch.
Mulch heavily. I’ve been using pine needles which helps a lot.

I till it in because potatoes like a slightly acidic soil and they are one of my main crops.
Ah, that's exactly what I was wondering. Going to be moving to an area with easy supply of pine needles and seems like an easy solution. I'll just have to remove them at season end

Yes, your soil may not need it. I have also used grass clippings but only if composted first to kill the seeds. Leaves may work too, if they’re old and compacted from an old pile.

Found a friend in the peppers. One lady bug and it's staying. Looking like things are slowing down with the aphids. Still on the watch.
Everyone's garden look great!

Ah, see I tried grass clippings once but all I ended up with was grad talking over my garden instead of weeds! Didn't know you need to compost them first.

Learned something new today

Berries are slowing down. Black raspberry jelly was made. We have enough Reds saved for a batch of jam.

More cauliflower to eat fresh and freeze. One small head left in the garden.

Sauerkraut crock is full. A few heads left in the garden for fresh eating.

Got the first lacto-fermented peppers of the year rolling. A mix of Thai bird chilis, serranos, and jalapeños. Caught some squash vine borers in the act and sent them to a painful death. Decided it was time to spray again and found a zucchini I missed earlier this week. Very hot week in store, probably won't have anymore tomatoes setting fruit until after the heat wave rolls through. 830 in the evening and the heat index is still 97. I'll never understand the people that get tired of our 2 weeks of winter and pine for summer. 20250726_202417.jpg20250726_202446.jpg

I just picked a dozen romas that were starting to turn, first tomatoes of the year. Bugs were chewing on them so picked them early. Picked another bucket full of green beans with 5 quarts in the canner right now. We had another bad flash flood. Was working on the county road so I could get my truck out. Tried to straddle a big washout out and the right side of the tractor slid into the rut and bottomed the tractor out. Managed to get out with 4x4 but screwed up the rim and lost the bead. Buddy came to help me get the tire off and he'll drop it off tomorrow at farm service to repair. For now I'm stranded.
