Peas and carrots for supper. Not a great haul of carrots, too much nitrogen I think. Beautiful leaves but dinky carrots. 4 year old only messed up once, but it cost me a basil plant. My fault for interplanting carrots and herbs lol.
kale and brussel sprouts are almost done. Getting a decent harvest of cucumbers. Spaghetti squash starting to ripen. Missed a zucchini and it got a little big.
May has been cooler than April with more rain so far. Everything's still coming along great. Peas ran out of trellis and they've started collapsing but I need to get okra in those beds anyway so I'll let them go for another harvest or so then cut em down. Lettuce is starting to bolt. Tomato plants are looking healthy. Squash is growing well too.
Insulation that I put around the garlic and strawberries last fall because I lost the outer 6-8" of each bed the winter before. Worked fine, full beds this spring. Onion harvest from last summer and lower garlic production from freezing over the winter. Garden shed I built last year. Pretty much just finished planting everything today, just have the tomatoes in the greenhouse still. Hopefully we are past our last freeze, fingers crossed. We had a hard freeze last June 16th! Planted tomatoes three times last year.
One of the things that we have started doing the last couple years with tomatoes, garlic, onions and basil is to chop it all up and mix in a big bowl and then freeze in quart zip-lock bags. Easy to thaw and instant Italian mix for adding to anything.
