2025 Colorado Bighorn Sheep Hunt

Good luck buddy. I know it’s a bad feeling. Hopefully you will find him soon.

Thanks. Just texted the closest guy and he seems interested but checking. Might be too late for today. Told us to quit grid searching because it will hinder them picking up the trail.
The less grid searching the better, assuming he's able to come. I hope yall find it. Good luck

Good luck, keep at it. Ive found getting down to ground level helps a lot. How i found my bull tahr.

One more grid line to run before we hit the bottom. We have dogs lined up for tomorrow morning.

Once we hit the bottom we are going to go up and down the creek a bit then climb up to where our camp from the first night is and do some glassing back over here looking for whatever we can find. Pretty sure all the sheep are blown out of here by now. Probably too early to be looking for birds.

Does Colorado have a rule with sheep were drawn blood = punched tag?

No. I’m debating that right now in my head. We are going to use the dogs tomorrow and be here at least a day after that looking for birds and listening to coyotes.

I’ve talked to my guide about paying him his daily rate to come up here a couple more times doing the same without me.

We are discussing whether I would want to extend the hunt later in the month if there is availability or if I’m just going to call it quits. Still the chance we might turn him alive.

This is just my opinion, and for your sake I hope I'm wrong. It's hard to tell sometimes from a picture, but to me the color, amount, and spatter of that blood looks like an arterial muscle bleed. The dogs will let you know for sure. I would venture to say you caught a front leg/brisket. If I were looking at a whitetail blood trail that's what I would call it anyway.

I too didnt like the blood color, from a man thats shot thousands of animals they dont go far from a liver shot.

Man. Thats tough. I wounded an antelope earlier this year. But I was able to keep tabs on him for two days. Finally decided the wound was not fatal.

Doesn't compare to this.

Hoping the dogs are of help. Amazing what a trusted dog can find.
