2023 Garden!

Getting real close to cutting some lettuce and spinach.
The iris are blooming and the roses are a few days away.

Doing some garden conversion. Went from a flagstone disaster to a large garden area. And mulched around the outside to keep weeds down. Removed all the old stuff, tilled thoroughly, added last years leaves and the chicken straw/shavings/poop that have been aging. Tilled all that in. Then covered with mulch to try and keep the weeds down. A little behind on some of our started inside but the garden itself is ready to roll.

Thanks. And we are in the city. Wish it was town lol. This photo is in my large cottonwood tree. You can see downtown denver on the left side of the photo.

Beans and collard seeds in tomorrow. Transplanting the peppers in. This early here is on the edge for me, but so far it has been a warm spring and the ground is warming up.

Interesting to note differences in what people do and what is possible around the country.

We're planted and growing in GA. Running late because they changed the start of turkey season to when I usually prep the plot. And I have to replant zipper creams as usual. Never will figure that one out.

25% doesn't fit in a pic without using panorama. Just corn n beans n a low rent scarecrow that contstintly scares me over there.

This weekend finally got around to putting in a raspberry trellis.
Garden is planted full, last of it went in today.

I have potatoes up and some radishes. My grandma without fail no matter the weather always planted spuds on Good Friday. We didn’t quite manage that this year. Chickens and pigs are up at the farm too!

I recently became a pig farmer too. To good of a deal to pass up. Neighbor called and wanted to know if I wanted any pigs. I said I’ll buy them if you feed them. We have 10.


I’ve been doing good on asparagus. Finally. I’m going to pickle some this week. The rest of the garden is coming along. I’ll start picking spinach this week.

We have 12. Direct marketing and all are already sold for late September delivery.

My grandfather raised abouy a dozen hogs for market every year he was retired. He fed them slop he got from a couple country stores that had breakfast/lunch counters.

I should raise one but I hate them for reasons which come out to be long stories. And they run wild around here anyhow.

I was nervous planting my tomatoes in Iowa last week. I hope for the best for you. A garden fresh tomato is near the top for me!

Lots of starts in the greenhouse. Still having to heat it at night but wont be long till its in the ground. Second week to the middle of may is our last frost date usually here. Got cabbage, onions, brussel sprouts and broccoli to plant soon.
