Looking for some advice. My dad gave me his Winchester 255 22 Magnum that he bought 55 years ago.

To honor the heritage, I’d like to put a scope on it that would have been a good scope in 1971. I’d like it to be a good enough scope to still use for squirrel hunting (what my dad bought it for in 1971).

My research says that either a Weaver K4 or Leupold M8 in 4x32 would answer the mail.

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but are there vintage rings available too? The rifle has the old 3/8 dovetail.

Any other options I am missing? I’d also be interested in buying something off of one of you instead of rolling the dice on eBay so let me know if you have one to part with.

I used to have a Leupold Vari XII high gloss that was a popular scope back then, but I sold that scope several years ago. The Weaver or some of the Leupolds from back then would be great choices.

I bought a Weaver K10 for my old Marlin .22LR and really enjoy the fine crosshair. Those scopes are tanks and were built well with good glass in the day.

Gotta find a set of see through rings, you can still find weaver ones for the dovetail. Burris makes some decent regular rings if you don’t want the see through. I have a speedmaster I need to get around to putting the scope on, I was able to find one of the Japanese weaver 4x’s on Rokslide

A guy can look on eBay and find refurbished vintage scopes as well. I’m looking for a k4 for my Dad’s Savage 99 after I kill a lope with it.
