One thing, which is not an excuse, is that we had in just the last few years had to start buying salt water fishing license in NC. I use to go all the time and never spent a dime on a license. However, everyone knows now to buy them. Especially, when it comes to something like The Big Rock. It was a very dumb mistake!
Brutal... Though fitting name for the boat. 
If I understand correctly, The regs for the event are ALL on boat must have a valid license. Makes sense for a $1 mil award. The person who did not was a deck hand of the boat... not the actual person who caught the fish...
Bet that deck hand would have been fish food had they not been so close to shore ... WOW! so much for that college boy's future summer job there...

Well there goes the deckhands tip! I have competed in many tournaments and no excuses when fishing at that level. From a hero to zero in seconds. What a bummer..
