Your Favorite Rifle

Another favorite that I may take out for a whitetail this year: 1870's vintage Rhodda 577-500 No. 2 BPE. Originally made for tiger hunting in India, but it shoots a 365 grain bullet at 1700 FPS, and should be plenty for anything inside of 150 yards.

My phone won’t upload pictures for some reason. Anyways it’s a toss up between my Remington 700 in 300 mag love that gun for deer or my Ruger 77 in 338 win mag. It flattens moose, bear and elk

Just got this one so it will get a good workout this fall fillings tags and through the winter on coyotes. It just might become my favorite. 6.5-06. Remington action, PTG bolt. McMillan gamewarden edge fill. Proof sendero light 26" 1-8". I will probably build it’s twin this winter in some flavor of 30 or 33 caliber

I had an image of you riding in a mahout mounted on the roof of a rusted silver Plymouth voyager, screaming at an 16 year old ranch hand driving for you, “left you muttonheaded imbecile, left” as you careened through a corn field deer fleeing for their lives.

It’s a bit of a tie for me right now.

What I’m using in CO this year. Barrett Fieldcraft 18” in 6.5 topped with a NF 2-10 NXS.

Mod. 70 in 243. Made in 1969 according to the serial number, owned by the original owner of the place I hunt here in TX. Sat in the closet and never fired until I got it. One of the best shooting factory rifles I’ve ever fired. I’ve killed most of my good bucks with this rifle.

As far as carrying, familiarity, rounds fired and killing this platform wins by far though it’s not popular here.

Watching Lawrence of Arabia much?

It’s close for me, but #1 is my M70 featherweight 7mm-08 my dad got me when I was 1 year old, and I’ve carried all over.

#2 is my Vanguard S2 .257 Bee I picked up when I moved out west permanently as my open country rifle
