Hi All,

Moving to WY here soon and I’m looking into buying a new rifle. Currently have a 243 in TX and my friends have convinced me to go 7 PRC for a great all around gun going forward. Is the Savage 110 Ultralite a good rifle? I like the price point, the brand, and also the carbon barrel. Open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Love mine in 6.5 prc I’ve only killed everything from a Sitka buck to a moose with it with some audad sprinkled in for fun

I had one in 28 Nosler and it had a feeding issue .
Do you reload ?
Mine sounded very raspy when working the bolt and when I loaded to lands the cartridge was too long for the mag .
But it was extremely accurate when you got the load right .
For that kind of money I’d find a Seekins PH 2 , twice as nice and not much more money .
Call Drifters Gear , smoking hot deals right now .

I do not reload, I will look into Drifters. Thanks for the info.

Your 243 will likely serve you well in WY too but i understand the excitement about buying a new rifle.

I personally wouldn't be thrilled about a Savage action but the rifle you mention could serve you well. 7 PRC is going to lag 7 rem mag in factory options and ammo cost if that matters to you.

I have one in 6.5 prc. Has shot every bullet I’ve loaded for it great.

For the price of the 110 Ultralight, you do get a fair bit.
Namely a $600-700 carbon fiber barrel.

Savage has never been known for having a smooth action. But they are known shooters.

For action smoothness, you're going to be hard pressed to beat a Tikka. And they are fairly accurate.

I'm not a fan of the 7PRC.

The Ultralight as per its name weighs in at 6.2#'s. You are use to shooting a .243 so be fully aware that a base 6lb rifle with optics will be very light in total weight. The recoil from 7MMPRC will be rather harsh from it especially if you are used to .243 range. Its a good rifle but it will be a handful if you are not accustomed to recoil.

The Savage High Country is a heavier base rifle and might be better option if you are sticking with the 7MMPRC.

I know everyone gets all caught up in light carry rifles, but if you are going to shoot frequently, the better option is going to be slightly heavier rifle. IMO.

Good luck!

I have one in 300wsm that is very accurate. I would recommend one. A seekins or tikka would also serve you well. These are all lightweight so proper technique is important.

I have one in 308. It is a great shooter. Not much for bells and whistles. Wish I could replace the stock but there's not much being offered. By the time you replace the stock you can buy a Weatherby CT and have a really nice gun. I recently bought one in 7 PRC. The weatherby will be my go to rifle for out west.

I like my Ultralite, but you may want to upgrade the stock.
