I have seen more antelope in my limited travels out East recently.I questioned the miles city office about the quota and they said they had some record counts and everyone they have talked to was excited about the number of antelope they were seeing. Basically got told to stfu. They have a pretty good system if you aren’t seeing what they are seeing you didn’t try hard enough. Everyone is concerned about getting a tag and have short memories. Quota was probably double of what it should have been. Until the public understands that overwhelming an area with tags privatizes wildlife nothing will change.

Gerald will be Gerald. Glad you had a good antelope hunt. You will be marked as satisfied. Hopefully we can have record tags next year.I did get some good footage for my Instagram video though so that will help.![]()
But did you shank your tent? Inquiring minds need to know! That’s impressive. We weren’t near that tough. Once Dad realized, we hit the mission abort button.
Actually worse than that if you got one you could get a doe tag and if you add in the north of the river tag there was 12k either sex tags and however many additional doe tags.Someone said to me that there are 8k antelope tags in SE MT. Is that true!? Seems insane if so.
Nope, but we sure roughed up that room at the SureStay in Forsyth in a fit of frustration. But did you shank your tent? Inquiring minds need to know!
So many that some went second choice in the south.Someone said to me that there are 8k antelope tags in SE MT. Is that true!? Seems insane if so.
good luck,Well, I’ve got the 700 South tag. Had success out there in the past, thinking about driving out for the weekend now that it’s not the opening day war zone or a blizzarding mud pit.
Wish me luck, I guess.
Still scratching my head about why they added another 150 tags in one R6 unit even as they acknowledged poor fawn recruitment last year. Thats an overall doubling of tags in that unit over two years, in an area with poor recruitment over several recent years.I realize MT has more antelope, but for comparison, AZ awarded 343 rifle tags in the entire state.
This is how you self efface...; )I went ahead and got two antelope tags for north of the river in 700 thinking you guys were exaggerating about the state of the antelope herd. Well, crud. Turns out you weren’t. Hysham to Miles to Jordan and back opening weekend in the truck. And 18 boot miles in between yielded 16 antelope in accessible ground.
If only there were a website with a message board where folks could share information and keep me from forging ahead with bad plans.
See anything on non-accessible land?I was shocked, honestly. I mean, I know I’m not the world’s best pronghorn hunter, but I’m not blind. And it’s not like we stayed in the truck all weekend munching on pork rinds at 85 mph on I-94. It was disheartening, for sure. No idea how FWP justifies the tag numbers they’re issuing.
