great state of Idaho....
I did a thread a couple years back called year of the elk. That year was pretty poor showing by the fam. This year we have 4 draw elk tags, 1 for each of us. I’m hoping this will be a better year of the elk. Thought I would make the first post.
Which means the start of burritos 🌯 for the freezer. I’m estimating about 50 days spent in the mountains chasing elk this season between 4 hunters. That means I may need a truck load of burritos 😂

Was actually just thinking about camp food for my September Colorado muzzy hunt. What's your go to burrito recipe?

Forget the elk I wanna hear about thay monster of a Muley.
We eat for a year off of 1 elk, could not imagine having freezer space for 4.
My family typically gets 4 to 6 a year and we go through almost all of it with 7 to 8 people.

Good luck matt, cant wait to hear about the adventures!

Family of 3, we typically need minimum 2 elk a year and some combination of 3-6 deer and antelope. Friends benefit in years when have extra elk tags (3 is common) or draw something like bison but have the processing ability and equipment for that amount of meat.

I’m a person that can eat the same thing pretty much all the time when hunting, just needs to be quick. I have a recipe I think on one of my other threads, I’m sure someone will chime in and say I did not get my own recipe right. It does very dependent on what I have in hand when I make them. So each batch of 12 is sometimes different. Potato, Egg, Bacon, cheese and elk sausage with green chilies is usually my go to and have on hand. I do add mushrooms sometimes, I’ve added syrup before doesn’t really matter the flavor, I started using dried jalapeños from Winco, really good. Then I’ll turn left overs into burritos too, as long as is can fit in a large burrito it gets turned into food for hunting 🙃

23 lbs of red meat a week is wild. I would need a commercial kitchen!
I cook almost every meal in my home, we used 1 full elk and 2 full deer, I just cooked my last package of steak tonight for supper. With a family of 3 basically now. I have maybe 2 packages of burger left, luckily I caught a bunch of perch, ducks, geese to supplement until antelope next month.
