Wyoming pronghorn unit options

I'm looking to take my son on his first western hunt next year. We will only have an average of 2 points, so I know my options are limited. Does anyone have any recommendations for which unit might have the best public access? Or perhaps how to go about finding private ground to get access to? I'm not looking for trophies, just a fun experience for us.

I’m afraid I don’t have much information for you but the Wyoming game and fish website has a “plan your hunt” feature and from there you can find pretty much everything you need to know. Drawing odds and access information are all there. I will say that if I were adamant about taking my son hunting and had 2 points I would be looking for an outfitter. You can probably find something with accessible public but if you go this route I would try to have the target animal in my crosshairs at legal shooting light on opening day.

I don't doubt that the pressure pushes them out of public pretty quickly. I suppose an outfitter is a possibility. I would like to find some private I could pay for access on, but that might not be possible.

Get your son a tag in an area with little public access and hire a guide for a 1 on 1 hunt. You can both enter the special draw if you want, but you can hire a guide for 1 of you for about the same price as 2 special draw tags and almost guarantee that he has a successful hunt.

Two points is tricky after the winter kill a couple years ago caused Wyoming to cut tag numbers in a lot of units. Units that were definitely in the two point range are looking like four points units now on gohunt. I will say, Antelope are an absolute blast to hunt. I can’t imagine in a lot of units if you burn some shoe leather you should be able to find Antelope. They are not in short supply in Wyoming. I’m looking forward to going back in a couple of years to burn my points again. I’m currently sitting on two but the unit I’m familiar with is now a four point unit. You all will have a ton of fun.
