Wyoming Draw Results 2026

I’m an idiot and put off applying for a type 9 this year due to other hopes/plans for this fall. Looks like I would have had more than a 90% chance of drawing at my point level and I believe the units type 1 had a big increase in tag numbers this year
I’m about 99% certain I know where you’re talking about. The type 1 tags this year did have an increase but it’s because last year they reduced the numbers by a LOT. The numbers in 2024 and before are a lot closer to this years. I had the type 9 tag in there a few years ago. I drew it in the special when I was a nr. Being a resident now I would gladly pay the nr special fee if it gave me a better chance to draw again. It is a fun hunt…next year is your year!

Here is what I find really interesting: Of the 1666 tags issued in the regular price draw based on points for S and W, 762 of them were issued to point holders that could have drawn the tag in either of the previous two draws with 100% chance. So why jump in now and get the tag rather than 2 years ago? That is almost half of the tags that "costed more points than required"
I was one of those guys that used WAY too many points for a general. Basically gave up on my dreams of a good limited entry tag after helping my buddy on his general tag last year.

Whole host of reasons why. Conflicting tags, researching areas, giving up on LQ areas that require more points, maybe waiting on others in their party, point averaging, outfitters didn't have room, booked hunt 2-3 years out....and on and on and on.

Why point systems aren't all they're cracked up to be for those wishing to "know and plan what year they will draw"...yeah, unless you're 2-3 above last year, pretty tough to predict.

People jump in and of applying for all kinds of reasons.

Yes, I do understand a lot of that and I guess what is just shocking is the volume and percentage of tags that went to people in that category. Every year for those reasons listed in the past tags do get issued but I feel like the percentage is probably around 10% or so. There are a lot of people putting in for these general tags and I find that interesting especially knowing the incredible amount of elk points that are out there for elk in WY.

Proposed increase in preference point fees might be part of it too. Less pronghorn and deer tags being issued perhaps another.

Probably will see Generals have a point creep of 1-2 a year until this occurrence ends. Will that top out at 10 points? 15 points? Pretty crazy to think about. I know the general elk tag in WY is a quality elk tag but if you are now looking at 10 years worth of points at $100/per and $707 for the tag (plus whatever it raises to 10 years from now) it sure is getting pricy for a general tag! $1700+

It will only go up to $75 per elk point (by statute), also will be the same starting in 2027 for both deer and pronghorn. So all of them will be $75.
