Well I haven't been in a few years but just put in for some WY antelope in unit 27, 23, 26. I do have a preference point or two so hopefully I can pull one of these tags and try some new units out. Anyone else put in for these units or have experience with them? Good luck in the draw!

Probably only have a shot at your first choice, unless your second choice is a private land only tag. Good luck either way, I hope you draw!

I've hunted 22 across the river from 23. My experience is the canyon land close to the river will not hold very many animals. We saw more antelope a few miles out where it was more rolling hills.

26 is prob your best bet. I’ve hunted 23-2 tag but not 22. I have seen antelope in 26. 23 and 22 is most private almost impossible to get permission. We go up there every year. You’ll have to better experience with the public in 26

Hey commutair do you have any suggestions for outfitters to reach out to in 23? Looking to take my dad on a retirement celebration hunt this fall. Ideally we'd pay a trespass fee for access only, but so far im only having luck finding full service outfitters. Feel free to dm. Thanks

Antelope hunts are the easiest diy hunt on the planet here in wyoming they out number people 10,000 to 1. Its impossible to drive, hike, boat, or motorcycle anywhere without seeing dozens of them.

Find open sage that has an incline. A half hour before sunrise start at the top and walk down towards the wooded creek bottom slowly. the antelope come up from the creek bottoms at sunrise. They graze a bit in the open before they go close to the tops of ridges and bed for the day. They like to have a view. If you dont manage to shoot one on their way up from the creeks, sit at the bottom of the inclines with 15x56 and glass the shawdows 20% down from the top of the ridge.

Once you shoot one its 20 minutes to gutless quarter. If your lucky you will get a big one and get upwards of 60 lbs of meat. The one i shot lengthwise with 300 win mag last year at 50 yards came over a ridge while i was setting up for a 200 yard shot on a big buck in a herd. It started blowing and i shot it before it spooked off the herd. Ended up being a runt. Im embarassed to say scraping every bit of meat off the bones only netted 20 lbs.

If you can manage shooting a deer, quartering it, and packing it out, an antelope hunt without a guide will be a breeze.

Only problem with antelope hunting in wyoming is tag numbers are super low. Im a resident and ive only drawn 3 in the last 5 years. Usually put in for the roughest, toughest, most un navigable areas. I usually have rocky mountain big horn sheep waking past me where i antelope hunt. Be prepared to shoot in open wind, though its rare to need to shoot more than 200 yards on any game animal in wyoming.

Depends on time of day. They will come up out of the river bottoms at sunrise, feed on the open grass and bed on the ridges when its hot. Not uncommon to see an antelope move more than 2 miles in a morning. if its a dry year i have watched them move about 10 miles in a day from my vantage point glassing.

Thanks Wy 270. I’ve only ever hunted antelope DIY, and been quite successful at it. In fact, i would seriously prefer it. Unfortunately, I have the 23-2 tag, private land only, and the info that I’d been given about a couple landowners that were open to a door knock and a trespass fee was out of date. All landowners that I’ve talked to are committed to outfitters, hence my questions above. If you have any insight on private land access in 23, I’d love to chat.
