Who all is headed North to Alaska fishing this year? 1st time ? Or general area and why do you like it.

This is a hunt year for me. Of course we will fish but not a fishing trip per say. We will fish for Char and Grayling in lakes and creeks. Depending on zone closures, weather and conditions we will likely be a few hours North, North East of Fairbanks

I will definitely miss June Salmon fishing. I love the solitude of the areas we go. No crowds.

Some guys I took a few years ago. Not fisherman trying Alaska for the 1st time.

I was signed up to go on the trip of a lifetime (fly in SE AK island lodge, and deep sea for halibut, salmon, rock bass) as part of a group but had to delay a year due to financial timing reasons… AKA divorce. :) Thankfully they let us apply our reservation deposits to next summer (2027).

We'll be doing our annual boys trip the end of June/1st of July. Been doing this for over 20 years now. I'm lucky enough to have a cousin with his own charter business so we stay in Homer every year and fish with him all over the Kenai Peninsula. One of our favorite trips of the year. I spend all year giving fish to friends and clients and try to time it so the freezers are empty this time of year.

I will be going to the Kvichak River again Labor Day week. Same trip I did in 2025 for the first time, steep learning curve so looking forward to hitting the water and catching fish sooner.
That time frame is my favorite. Kvichak is a fantastic river for oversized rainbows, silvers (coho), Char and Grayling. Usually the best weather too.

My friend's have been organizing a DIY trip for 10 people for over a decade. Mainly targeting the big rainbows the bycatch is great. Very cost effective, especially when you look at the $18k/week cost at AK Sportsmen's Lodge that is only a couple miles away.

Last year our float plane was fogged out but hoping we can do a day trip to the Kulik river this year.

Best fishing I've ever seen was on the Kulik during Covid. Had three different trips there we were the only ones fishing. It was insane.

Went my first time last year to a lodge out of Petersburg. Had a good, not great trip but definitely want to do it again. Would probably want to do something different, Petersburg was more difficult to get to from Colorado than I would have liked. Too much time sitting in an airport waiting on connections

Ketchikan or Sitka would be good bets. You'll still have to connect out of Seattle or Portland but you then go direct. If getting to Petersburg was frustrating you should avoid Bristol Bay. Weather delays very common.
