i have several slate calls and i have no idea how to make a cutt on it. ive tried and it doesnt sound at all like the birds. it seems too slow and when i try to speed it up it jus seems to sound riduiculous.

so i guess my question is, is there an easy way to make a cut with a slate call. and if so how do i do it?

Well as you know a cut is a short, staccato yelp and is usually made by the hen in a series, varying in length. It seldom is the same and there is no set pattern.

I do mine by varying the length of the sounds with irregular sharp strokes on my slate lasting around 10 to 15 seconds.
I sound horrible to my ears also. However the real hens sound even worse.

Cutting isn't always a pretty sound. I never mastered it well with a slate, but can do some serious cutting with several different diaphram mouth calls. It can sometimes make the difference too. Moosie has heard me do some cutting with a diaphram mouth call.
