What were dealing with in WA

Fed, not state, but it's a WA newspaper
Washington DC.

That is a tough situation. I want more people, regardless of color or background, to care about wild things and wild places. So there is potential upside. As long as there is no expectation for special treatment for one group or another.

The Washington Examiner is a tabloid rag, fyi.

Read that article earlier. Ridiculous in many levels but it's congress that sets the budget, not the FS. Blaming the admin for congress's ineptitude is peak trash journalism. Allowing the feel-goodery of dumbass consultants to continue is 100% on the admin.

Well with the apparent inequality on the commission as far as Sportsman's representation things will not go in our direction. When you have people like Lorna Smith and her obvious ties to anti hunting groups it's hard to remain positive. Outside of the state influences are a big issue and one welcomed by the commission. It's obvious when they will listen to anti hunting petitions yet disclaim any by hunting community. Ex commissioners like Kim Thorburn know the commission is slanted towards the anti's. I continually email the commission to be heard.

Are there any Washington based pro-hunting groups? I'm happy to send an email to a politician but I do not have the time to stay on top of the issues.

Your new governor which is no better then inslee is on the opposite extreme not good for sportsman at all unfortunately washington is in a bad place if your a sportsman
This is actually playing out quite differently than your prediction. I’m not out to crown him the savior of hunting, BUT he did ask Inslee to rescind his lame duck commish appointments.

He reappointed two good commissioners, one TBD, and gives many of us a whole lot of hope for the near future of our commission. There are two really bad commissioners up for reappointment in about a year.

Sportsmen’s Alliance seems to have good lawyers and involve themselves in a lot of the core issues we discuss here I would certainly follow.

@Archer86 not sure what was funny, but I’m assuming it was a passive aggressive jab and is likely an example of why Big Fin was going to nuke the like emojis. You anppear unable to carry on an articulate conversation about this matter.

Give credit where credit is due, and Ferguson prevented two disastrous picks from taking seats on the commish.

Ferguson is as bad or worse then inslee. 38 percent increase in sportsman licenses is good for sportsman? With no return is hunting getting better in Washington in anyway. Just because he made 2 picks for the commisison that might be ok doesn't mean he is doing anything to help sportsman.

If you get spring bear back maybe things will look like a slight improvement but washington is likely headed in a direction of less opportunities.

It had been almost 15 years since a license fee increase. 38% is certainly steep, I won’t debate that.

As to the commish picks, how do you think a spring bear hunting will ever return without shifting the composition of the commish back to a more reasonable one? Inslee was steering it off the cliff and Ferguson brought it back. What he does from here is TBD.

It’s way too early to label him worse than Inslee, who turned into an absolute disaster his last term.

I will just have to disagree and I am very thankful I was able to get my family out of that state. I think anyone expecting much from ferguson is dreaming.

Ferguson has made it illegal to purchase firearms, beginning May 1, 2027. I don't think this is positive for hunting in any way. So I'd have to say Ferguson is far worse than Inslee. As hard as that may be to believe.

I definitely disagree. We've backed away from electric ferries, we've effectively ditched most of the climate change shooting-ourselves-in-the-foot policies, he restricted his own "Emergency" powers that Inslee expanded, and is pushing for no new taxes to offset our budget deficit, while still supporting another $100 million for law enforcement. I think we got damn lucky that Ferguson isn't anywhere close to Inslee.
Also...
Michael Jean, litigation counsel for the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation. “As a result of our previous records request and litigation discovery, we have major concerns that the corruption of the Fish and Wildlife Commission runs deeper than we initially suspected. These new records requests will bring to light any misconduct with respect to wildlife management at Washington’s highest level of government. Washington sportsmen deserve to know just how bad things are.”
But I will agree that this newest law is dumb, and I hope it's repealed or found to be illegal (which is pretty real posibility).

But based on the logic expressed in your comment, it's also illegal to drive a car.

Yes, to anyone who doesn't get the required firearm training, get fingerprinted, etc.

Which I will not do. I've been shooting and hunting for 50 years. I'm not going to go through the expense and process of getting a permit that allows me to exercise my 2nd amendment rights and buy a gun so I can go hunting.
