Bought a used EV for my wife over the weekend. At $4.00/gallon for gas her round trip commute each day had been costing just under $17.00. I’ve tracked kWh charging and it’s under $2.40 per day in electricity at our current rates, which will drop in half when I get the off-peak meter hooked up. I expect in mid-winter it’ll be 30-40% more. Tabs are about $150 more per year for an EV, insurance about $10.00 more per month, and she’ll probably burn through tires nearly twice as quick, but the math still puts us way ahead and no more oil changes every few months for me to do. I bought it in Denver and drove it back to MN. Cost at the fast chargers for the trip back was pretty similar to what gas would’ve been.

Gas here is $4.00/gallon currently.

EVs are heavy, and the instant torque is pretty incredible. I’m hoping it’s not as bad as I suspect, but I know how she drives. If the acceleration is there, she’s going to use it.
