What are you currently reloading?

Still working on my 280AI loads. Have benched the plans around H4831SC with the 160AB due to low velocities within what I can get into a case, and loaded up a ladder test set of both RL23 and IMR4350 to see if we can do any better.

Finally got a shooter. RL23 is netting me a nice 2850 FPS at 56 gr with a 160gr AB, no pressure signs that I can see. Knew I was onto something when the first 3 shots stacked on target. Next onto dialing around there for a final number.

Loaded up 30 125 HHT for my 6.5 PRC. Used 10 to verify speeds and drops - somehow picked up another 30 fps on the third firing on these brass. SD/ED shrunk as well. I’ve got verified drops out to 700, but won’t hunt that far out.

Also ran a ladder to find pressure signs in the .22-250 using 77 gr TMK and H4350.

STD7MAG, I’ll be at the range benching ml’s. ( I’ve built many sml’s) .
Shooting tiny groups. Adjacent seasonal type hunting shooters will be patterning their centerfire pieces.
Upon them looking at my targets and seeing me push a bullet down the barrel the conversation starts.
I do inform them that I only shoot “handloads” out of this gun.

Some get it, some don’t.
Lol

Before my daughter was born I stumbled into a deal I couldn't refuse and bought a Remington Model Seven .243 Win as her future first deer rifle. A couple years later with another kid on the horizon I decided that in the name of fairness he deserved a rifle as well. After much debate and deliberation, instead of buying new I had one of grandpa's guns, a Remington Model Seven .223 Rem, rebarrelled to a 18" threaded 1/7 twist Shaw .223AI with the hope of shooting heavy 75+ grain bullets for short range deer hunting. I did their barrel break in process a few weeks ago and headed to the reloading bench.

Spoiler alert....a new rifle is wearing the crown as the most accurate in the safe. IMG_6568.jpeg

IMR 8208 XBR got the nod as the first powder and Sierra 77 gr. TMKs as the bullet. The gunsmith that did the barrel install, chamber, and magazine set it up with 2.400 OAL rounds in mind so I loaded a few of those up but didn't reliably feed. I seated them deeper to 2.365 OAL and that solved the issues.

A new scope, some zeroing rounds in the center, then 7 loads 3-rounds each. All ended sub-MOA with velocities from around 2450 to a bit over 2700.

My best was the second fastest/hottest I loaded, a bit over the Sierra book max. Can be seen there in the top center and below. The hottest load had slight primer flattening and worse cratering than the rest. They all had some degree of minor primer cratering, even the bottom end loads, assume thats a firing pin thing. No other pressure signs.

I loaded a few more of those the next day and got similar results.

What speed are you getting with the 77TMK in the 22-250?

Hit pressure at 37.0 gr of H4350 and had 2990 on the chrono.

Will likely back off a bit and shoot a group of 10 at 36.0 and 36.5 gr to see what groups best.

This is also through a chopped and threaded 18” barrel. I’m sure if it was factory length I could push into the 3100 range.

I’ve got an 18” as well and 37gr of h4350 goes 3050 in mine. Have a couple hundred rounds down the barrel so she’s well broke in. Daughter will hunt with that this year. Grabbed a tikka compact 243 that I’m debating on cutting at 18” for her to use next year so I can get my 22-250 back.

I didn't load them but requested some 32-40 rounds for an old Winchester for a LO and some .243 wssm rounds, 100 gr bonded bullets for the 243wssm.

I’m 100 rounds into this barrel. I have no doubt I’ll pick up more speed as I shoot it more.

It’s a fun rifle. My oldest and I are diving head first into coyote season this winter, so it’s gonna see some rounds.

The 77tmk is definitely effective on coyotes. Wouldn’t plan on keeping a hide though if you’d planned to.
