Here’s another story of someone else finding something of mine that they probably thought was a crazy, weird and lucky find. I stopped at a gas station near the highway entrance to get some coffee a couple hours before daylight. Apparently I’d set my wallet right behind the back windshield where the bed starts, on the pickup. (A spot I often set my coffee and drive off also)
Obviously not realizing I’d set it there, we drove 25 miles or so before we left pavement and another 8-10 miles cruising mountain roads. We did some good hikes down into some nasty stuff and I found a moose paddle down in the dark timber. We milled around down there for a bit looking for the match, to no avail. When we hiked up and out and got back to the truck, I realized I’d lost my wallet. We drove the same road(s) and hiked BACK up to the peak we glassed from that morning. I was convinced it had fallen out when I was sitting, laid back against my pack with my knees up, glassing. Nope. Not there. I decided that if it was in that hellhole where that paddle came from- the woods can keep it. Certain it was a goner, we got in the truck and headed back toward the blacktop. As we were coming around the corner still on the dirt road, a white jeep was oncoming and waving us down. When we rolled the window down they asked if one of us was named _______? I couldn’t believe it! They said that a SXS went through a big mudpuddle in the road which parted the water, unveiling an open tri-fold wallet. Dude said he literally couldn’t see it and had to feel for it in the puddle when the water was settled. How lucky!? I gave them both like $40 each or whatever was in there. I was so happy. Still have an iPhone in the BHDL NF somewhere though…
