J.R.'s lovely wood on his Benelli and the Corbett rifle made me feel like dragging out one of the fun guns.

577/500 No. 2 Black Powder Express by Rodda of Calcutta. It was made in the 1880's for tiger hunting in India. Shoots a 365 grain cast bullet at about 1600 fps using somewhere around 150 grains of black powder.

Recoil is noticable, but not bad. About like a 30-06 with 220 grain bullets.

Wow! That is a beautiful piece! I would love to take Black Death with a double rifle like that one!

A well loved piece for sure. Guessing the only safety measure is cocked/un cocked hammers?

Re Gun Pron: In my best Oliver Twist accent......."please sir, can we have some more".

Do you *actually* shoot her, or is she just purdy?

She gets shot. I have about 40 cases for it and dies for reloading. I've not hunted with it yet. It tips the scales at around 10 pounds. Given the light bullet and low velocity, it would be ok for bear, lion and deer, elk under 100 yards and of course, tigers.

Thanks guys, it was one of dad's favorite toys.

Beautiful!
Bet Ol' Betsy can put a hurt on a shoulder too.......would be a fun Buffalo gun for sure.

Yep, and the safety between your ears. Some of these old doubles have stalking safetiesm but this one just has the rebounding hammers.

Hope you make the hunt! I think John is walking around in circles mumbling to himself and wiping drool off his chin... :)
