Used Binos for Boat

I need a pair of 10x42 binoculars for my fishing boat. Nothing fancy or "high end". But I do not care for junk either. Ebay has always been my go-to for used glass, but now Ebay is full of mostly new glass and even the used ones are not for auction but rather for a fixed price that is often far too close to the new price. I suspect most are being sold by dealers, not private individuals.

Anyway, I would like to find a decent pair of used glasses. Maybe something that sells new in the $400-500 and used for $200-$250.

If you do not feel this is realistic, do not hesitate to say so. My feeling are almost always hurt, so they can't be made much worse :) :)

Just got a pair of used Nikon prostaff on Facebook marketplace for my wife. Paid $80. Might be an option to find something.

I only have experience with the Maven C1s and cheaper vortex, but I'd bet they would work just fine for a fishing boat set.

Watch Midway. They sometimes run really good sales. mtmuley
I’d second this. I got a pair of the old Burris Droptine 10x42 for $119 at Midway, which are highly regarded and very good binos (for their price point) that are normally around $300.

Apparently Burris did a “refresh” on the line and changed some things so Midway did deep discount on the old models (which are considered better).

Stabilization would be nice. If I thought I was going back to Southeast Alaska to hunt black bears again from a boat, I would be in the hunt for a Canon 10x42 stabilized. But I suspect I will not be doing that again, and I do not want to spend that kind of money on glass for my little fishing boat.

Looks like I'll be in good shape with a little help from MThuntr.

Thanks, all.

For a boat, i would buy 7x50 marine binos not 10x. They will have better eye relief, FOV, light gathering ability. I tested several marine binos years ago and the Nikon marine binos won.

I am sure they have a place, but not where I am going. I definitely want 10x.

Are you "sight fishing"? LOL..... Maybe just get a set of these...https://www.vanguardworld.com/collections/binoculars/products/endeavor-ed-1042

Might want to check out the Canon IS (image stabilization) line. Had them on my work boat and they were great.

Bought a pair of my own once I retired and had to turn in my issued pair. Don't know what the prices are running now since it's about 20 years since I turned them in.

Great everyday binos

Think I got them on Optics Planet

Yes, they are nice.I have used them. But they are too expensive for what I want to do.

Honestly I'd just get a set of Vortex diamondback 10x42s next time they come on sale on midway. I have the older generation of them, and they are my daily drivers as I am not afraid to drop them, fall on them or get them covered in mud. Anytime I look through a more expensive set of glass, the gain in clarity is hardly good enough in my opinion, unless looking through some swarros with their hefty price tag

Regrettably, since my bride forbade cruising thru Lowe's Highport Marina at Lake Texoma, there's been no neccessity for magnification.
