Ugh, email ads...

What's the difference between postcards solicitations & email solicitations?

Honestly, we probably all checked yes on a privacy policy agreement when joining up to the forum, therefore, it isn't considered spam. Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, Bass Pro & every other corporate company uses these same advertising services.

Personally, it doesn't bother me a bit & I won't unsubscribe. I will delete what I don't want, which takes about 2 seconds & support Randy & OYOA however I can. I would imagine some of the bigger sponsors want this ability & it helps sink the hook into their mouths. Advertising budgets are shrinking & getting sponsors isn't easy, so they want as much as you can give them.

You guys have a right to not like it & all I can say is, it's easy to hit unsubscribe.:W:

In my book this is spamming...show me where I agreed to get email advertisments please...I will then unsubscribe.

99% of the websites & forums you enter have Privacy Policies. Basically, it's a given nowadays... Advertising budgets are slashed & you will get emails from most of the websites or forums you join eventually. Direct Mail isn't cheap & they are looking to reach more people for less money...

This being the key word...I did not request anything....

lol, holy crap who cares...:D

I mean, I was a little upset cause I thought for sure it was an invite from Big Fin to hunt bears in Alaska with him next year

Just finished an 1,100+ drive to NM. Mrs. Fin sent a text telling me to check this thread. Sorry I am only now getting to a camp site and able to reply.

Interesting to read the responses, given we have sent emails to our members in the past. In the past, we have sent bulk emails to people to announce airtimes, sponsors, requests to vote for us, and other details. Those were sent directly from the vbulletin software that runs this forum.

Thinking it would be good if we could add some graphics, images, and have the flexibility to allow people to unsubscribe, and track the number of emails that get opened and clicks on links, I got some software that integrates with this database.

I sent the email. It is different from those of the past, in that it has more images and can add the ability to have "clickable" image links.

I had planned to use it for updates of show information, recap of products we use. sponsor announcements, network announcements, and providing discounts when such come from sponsors.

Given the impression that is is SPAMMING, I might rethink it and just go back to using the old text based emails we have used in the past.

Will have to think about this one. Maybe I have the wrong impression of what constitutes Spamming.

I dont have any issues and if you have an Gmail or almost any other e-mail account you can filter your e-mails if it bothers you to that degree. Fin keep it the way it is and put the money in the pocket if that is what it is helping you do as well. Sometimes we take generosity and what it takes to be able to give these things for granted in order to believe our time is more important than everyone else. I think it is a good idea and you should see it through until you truly feel it does not benefit the site and your followers and friends.

BTW Oak I understand what you were saying so this is in no way targeting you or anyone else. Just a blanket statement.

It was a Gore-Tex add, so I did consider it spamming. Anything else non-product related, I am okay with. I am also okay with adds imbedded in an email, however there was no other point to this email other than the advertisement...so it is spam. my 2 cents

This is what I received: GORE-TEX Keeps The On Your Own Adventures Crew Dry

Well I would say if it is one of Fin's sponsors then I would say accept it. If not then I agree with the spam.

I got it but it's no worse than the other 74 junk box items...one of which was a cougar dating service spam .I fwd'd to Oak.

I am a member of 4 hunting forums and 3 fishing forums. Some of them I have been a memeber of for several years. NEVER EVER got email ads from any one of them until now. Like others on this site it kind of made the hackles grow. I don't need spam to inform me of the wonders of goretex. Fin you would likely be well served to ax the ads. Just my 2 cents.

BTW one of the big draws to this site for me is the fact there is less advertising here than other places. Way less banner ads and no ads for outfitters/hunting services.

I did not get an e-mail. must be I already had my account settings to prevent it? Or all the sponsors know I am so cheap that even the tiny expense of adding me to the mail list is a waste!
