Posted for DRAFTSTUD. Congratulations to Travis on a great buck!

My son Travis and I went up to Deer Camp this weekend to spend time
with his Uncle and cousin. The First day we did'nt see anything but
Racoons and Bobcats. That evening we went out to eat and upon arriving
back at the "Lodge" we saw Deer moving around the Lease near the camp.

We woke up to an overcast sky and a feel of rain in the air, so we were
hopeful the Rut was soon to kick off. We left for our stands and were
ready about 30 minutes before shooting light. About 7:00 I heard a shot
but could'nt make out where it came from...until my phone vibrated in my
pocket. "Dad, Man I just shot a big one" (Now this boy was about to
hyperventilate he was so excited!)

He said he was going to wait about 10 minutes and go check it out. I told
Travo to come get me if he needed me. When the phone vibrated again he
stated "This thing is bigger that I thought and it's a 10 Point!" Well shoot
boy come and get me!

We went back and sure enough he had made a 160 yard shot with his
Model 7 in 7mm-08 and the Buck went about 10 feet. I really like that
caliber. This kid is a joy to spend time with and he has become quite the
hunter since his first Deer 8 years ago when he shot his first deer at age
10.

Travo at age 10 with his first Buck, a 9 point.

I would like any guesses on what you might think it scores.

This Buck had been rubbing a scrape line Travo had found last week.

Gross 150 plus or minus a few inches. Darn good buck for Travis & mighty proud moment for the D-stud! WTG.

Way to go thats a heck of a buck!

Looks like a little body on that deer?

I'd say around 140gross.

Thanks Oak! Yes he was a small Deer, I weighed him at 137# Guts and all. LOL The Biologist in the area said the Deer along the Stateline of the LA and NE Texas area we hunt were stocked from West Texas and they have a small body size with typically dark horns. We have been taking quite a few deer off this lease and except for this buck the body size has steadily been going up. Travo shot a Doe last weekend and she was heavier than this buck. But, heck we're just Living the Dream! John

Way to go guys.. Great bucks.. Don't you love it when the youngsters out hunt the older folks? THat's great!

awesome buck!! I have yet to hunt whitetails, but a buck like that is something to look forward to!

again, congrats on a fine WT. guessing 130's plus the mass measurements. shame the brows are broken off like that.
