Tom Petty RIP

Amazing talent and was pending on life list so that won't happen now. Should have pulled the trigger and flew to Chicago this summer when he played Wrigley Field with Chris Stapleton.

Saw Stevie Nicks earlier this year in Salt Lake and she spoke lovingly about her lifelong relationship with Tom and what he did for her career.

Tom Petty, the dynamic and iconoclastic frontman who led the band the Heartbreakers, died Monday. He was 66. Petty's death was confirmed by Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, on behalf of the family.

"On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends,"

He was on my list also dukes...hard worker, great band. Fought the music industry and won. Think he did 40 shows last year. One of the most genuinely revered performers in the biz. As I've been unanimously told, ticketholders got their money's worth every time.

When I was 18 and my heart was green and broke a little by a girl this one was on repeat for quite some time. RIP.

You’re a jerk.

You are correct on that. My reaction to what John said was not appropriate and I apologize to John for it. Yesterday was a very bad day for me and I wasn't probably thinking straight. The known facts of the day were bad enough in my opinion that it bothered me to see someone I have a lot of respect for suggest it was even worse than what was known.

RIP Tom

I didn't suggest that it was something worse, I said I'd reserve my judgment and sorrow to see what caused the situation. Everyone gets all up in arms with celebrity deaths, and a great number of times they were drug or overdose related, so I can't feel too sorry about them. He made no qualms about being a stoner, and if he's another musician that chalked a death up to drug use, then I can't be all that sad. Yeah, I liked his music and saw him in concert a couple of times.

...one more just because.

My favorite song of all time! When I was 13 my Mom and brother were going into town so I sent $10 with my brother to get me Meatloaf "Bat Out Of Hell" but when my Mom saw the cover she wouldn't let him buy it so he picked out Hard Promises instead. I was not happy at first.....then I listened to Hard Promises and have been a Tom Petty fan ever since. In 2009 we took our three boys to see Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and when Stevie walked out unexpectedly to do "Insider" I knew it would be the coolest live music moment of my life and I see a lot of live music.

Tom inspired a lot of people to do great things! I don't think there could be another Tom Petty in the world we live in today but I hope I'm wrong.

Well well well...it seems he died of a drug overdose...fentanyl and oxycodone....

Even sadder to me because of this. I’m not a guy to care too much about celebrities, but Tom Petty was the soundtrack of my childhood. Many a hunting or fishing trip with his music cycling through my dad’s truck.
