I woke up yesteday morning to some ravens circling the end of my property. I took the boy and went for a walk, knowing what I would probably find. Every spring, I find one or two dead pregnant does or does and fawns right on my land, usually from a lion. I was happy that this time, it was just a fawn. One side of its ribs were chewed off and guts were gone.

The boy helped me set up a cam to wait and see what comes back.

Later yesterday evening, he wanted to show his cousin the dead fawn. I went out with ursie and cleared the area, then followed close behind, but let him find the way on his own.

That was 621 pm, this showed up and 705 pm! While we were eating elk burgers, the bear was eating our little fawn.

This is the shot I wanted, fawn in mouth, just missed. I used the wrong cam, lesson learned.

That's pretty cool.
Any idea what killed the fawn in the first place?

No idea. If I was to guess, it was him/her. Probably killed the fawn, chewed the guts out of it, then got interrupted in the morning when I let the dogs out to eat. He probably heard the commotion and bolted. Then just came back later.

Draathaar.....Do you carry a sidearm or spray (or both) outside your doors? Lots of toothy critters footin' around your place.

I usually have bear spray close, I always have a drahthaar running around, and I have a pyrenees/shepherd/wolf cross that is a bit of a bad ass when predators come around. The pyrenees is always out if the kids are out, that is just a rule of the house. Plus there is the little terrier cross that alerts us to most as well.

That's pretty cool. I think the bear might be in the first shot, with you and your son. See the dark spot beside the stump in the background--it's not in any of the other shots...

Awesome as usual. I have a old trail cam with a film camera in it. Would the body be any use to you, I've never used it. I'd ship it to you for free if you could use it.

I could absolutely use it. If I can rig a shelf or make it fit one of the cams I have with no case. Or even use it as a decoy type setup for some of the things I do for landowners with tresspassers.

Send me a PM with your address and I'll mail it later this week if you wish. If I move it one more time in the garage I'll probably throw it in the garbage.

That's awesome! Good education for those kiddos.

Some of my neighbors aren't quite that nice looking... ;)

Very cool. I have a couple of cameras laying here. I should put them out and see what I can find. Most likely to find a thief, I'm sure.
