Wonderful story telling and great bulls, you two are studs! First experience with tundra was in June at Nome this year. It was only a birding trip and we were only a mile at most on the tundra. Told myself that no way in *&^% would I ever do an Alaskan hunt that required walking on tundra. You guys are probably 20 years younger than I am, still don't think I would have wanted to do that 20 years ago.

Weren't those hunts guided? Absolutely nothing wrong with that (I'd take one in a heartbeat) but I think in the spirit of a (primarily) DIY forum, that takes a little off the overall score.
And they sure weren't out of the back of a U-Haul truck on the side of the road.

Too late. Heel picture once done for good.
The actual blisters formed on the first outing, so they had time to be become less raw and the moleskin and gorilla tape protected quite well, but can't stop it from hurting.
It was one giant mega tender zone though. Cracking at times, bleeding here and there.
I'm not sure it had as much to do with not breaking in the boots as I think having boots that just weren't quite right for me. I've been having hell the past couple of years figuring boots out. Ironically, ever since I stopped buying cheapo Cabelas brand and moved into fairly high tier footwear everything just seems to hurt me. I need to experiment more with even thicker socks and perhaps insoles before moving on though.
Crispi Lapponia III GTXs - I bought these for the trip specifically because my Schnee's Beartooths are problematic too.
They performed flawlessly otherwise, kept my feet dry, which seems impossible out there.

I'm generally not super prone to blisters but I had a pair of boots that gave me horrible blisters years ago and had a lot of luck with the double layer Wrightsock. The two layers moving independently really made a difference.
The thing I hate is when I bought cheap boots I could put zero thought into anything and have zero issues. Running socks from Costco? No problem. Wool socks? Great. What even are insoles? Don't care.
Zero blisters zero pain.
Then I buy 400 dollar boots and can't walk 800 yards without them hurting. Then I learn I need to develop some sort of footwear program to prevent blisters.
Feels like a scam.

I'm not sad about it, bu know for sure this is beyond me now. It makes me more appreciative of the great write-up.
I had my last can of Copenhagen on Prince of Wales in 2021. I so get this statement. It took me right back to half a can of dip in my lip looking down from the Alpine, watching the Hollis Ferry come in from Ketchikan. Your writing, @TOGIE, has the ability to transport me to memories complete with sight, taste, and sound. Great write-up.

I've successfully (or so I thought) quit Zyn and Chew twice before, 8+ months, only to fall come hunting season.
When doing long drives through open country, with the likes of Randy Rogers, Chris LeDoux, and Turnpike playing; cutting up critters and wolfing down victory burgers, jumping back in the car for the satisfying drive home with a full cooler - I simply could never comprehend how the activities would be and feel the same, and always caved on the gas up out of town.
This year I vowed to see it through.
Or maybe it was just the gun my wife was holding to my head...
