The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

I did #3 last year, stopping at a rest stop in eastern SD to get a couple of hours of sleep in the back of the expedition before moving on. Trying to do #2 this year since since I sent the expedition to my niece. Definitely want to get past halfway

I'm always doing #3. Got a setup I'd more rather sleep in then a bed in some POS hotel/motel. I'll roll to NV, CO and every hunt in MT with it over the next 4 months

Well in a rare turn of events we will be adding a 62-1 antelope hunt to this adventure. It hit the donation list today and HwH was able to snag it for me. So Dave and I on our way home will spend a few days chasing big antelope bucks. Super excited about this as it is a tag I never would have drawn. On the hunt planner it looks like there were only 14 resident tags and NR had a 0 tags available.

We're back into the high heat/high humidity for a bit. Can't do crap outside again. Been doing 5 miles on the bike daily but that's out until next week when it cools down. Spend a little time on the elliptical and if I feel like it (mainly if I remember) I knock out 25 push-ups. Not sleeping very well AGAIN and it seems like I'm pretty tired most of the time. Takes some ambition to get moving, but once I'm up I get things done. Lori's birthday was Wednesday and I got through that without any issues in my head. Got to see my daughter and granddaughter as we were doing our cemetery visits and I got the little bugger squealing and giggling like crazy. Perked us both up laughing given where we were. Better drop and do my 25 now that I'm thinking about it.

As this event is getting closer I wanted to see who is committing to show up. There have been lots of tire kickers but I’m only tracking 4. The two tag holders, myself, and the host.

Yeah, it would help plan how much food we need. I'll be bringing some of my fish from Alaska and probably a batch of chili. Also baking a big bunch of chocolate chip cookies! A couple other things are still being considered. We'll be doing a little more coordinating as it gets closer but having a good idea of people coming will be good for figuring out what we need to bring to camp.

Let me add that you don't have to commit to the entire season. I've had several people say they would like to come help out for a few days. I'll be there until we all tag out, season ends or something happens that would force me to head back home. If you worry about the food supply, don't. If someone is going to help out the least I can do is make sure they are fed. You folks helped make this happen and I appreciate it greatly. It won't bother me to pack a little more food if someone shows up for a few days. You saw what @BuzzH and I caught in Alaska this summer, right? 🤣 Another package or two out of the freezer won't bother me!

Squeezed in 4 miles on the bike today amongst the other things going on. As usual, the first mile or so my knees ached pretty bad but eased up as I went. I'm just not as "ready" as I was last year after being sick this spring. I'm trying, but I can sure feel the difference. Getting older isn't easy but it beats the alternative!

Getting the incidentals together now. Got a few milk jugs washed out for freezing. Dual purpose. Making up my drink mixes to freeze and keep the food frozen or at least cold on the way out. I'll drink them as they thaw. Stocking up on snack/lunch stuff for the pack when we're out hunting or scouting. Never froze chili before so I tried a small batch to test out. Wasn't bad, think we'll be OK with that when I make the next batch. Same with brisket. Have a nice slab vacuumed and frozen. Should be fine when thawed. I'll wait until the last "home" day to bake the cookies. Can't shoot any until the beans are picked and I don't know if that will happen before I leave or not. I'm sure I can check zero at a couple distances when I get to camp. Coolers are scattered in a couple places. My clothes and gear are all in the same room, at least! I'll get it better organized and together when I get closer to leaving. May even wash my truck!

Tim might not make it to camp until the Monday after the opener, so Greg and I will be on our own until Tony shows up. At least I'll have a resident tour guide for scouting! :ROFLMAO:

I wish I could join you. Always exciting and a bit stressful packing for a trip.
