The big 18 and adult things?

Thing is, no one forced anyone to stay in the trades and go without a paycheck. McDonald’s was always hiring.

@TrapperJ sometimes in life we have to swallow our pride in between stepping stones. Is McDonalds or driving a school bus a place you want to work, probably not. Will it be a band aide while you recover, absolutely. You can still keep fighting for what your end goal is while still supporting your basic needs.
Totally get and understand that and I know that dreams dont come over night and to support my end goal im gonna have to do and work things and places I dont like.

Get a budgeting app like YNAB so you know where every dollar of yours is going. You’ll quickly learn where to prioritize your spending. You’ll likely end up being able to spend more on your hobbies because your money won’t just disappear on little, stupid purchases.
That sounds good ill go do that

Didnt read the thread, so not sure if this was mentioned, but pick your friends and who you hang out with very, very carefully. I have heard it said you are the average of the 5 people closest to you.
I belive I got some damn good friends which most people belive that then end up with one or two bad friends but I was always told the tree falls the way it leans and I think I rather fall in a good crowd then a bad

It isn’t quite that simple on the friend thing. You will have to work and associate with a lot of people as you get older and enter the work force. To some degree you don’t have much of a choice who you associate with but if the people work with tell you it’s normal to pay your truck payment with a credit card you’ll think that’s how people live. I was fortunate when I landed where I am guys talked about paying off mortgages and 401s and not diesel truck and utvs

Resist new vehicle purchases. Most financial planners recommend buying 3-5 year old vehicles because the highest depreciation is over by then. Get any used vehicle thoroughly inspected before purchase. I took this to the next level by only buying vehicles I could afford with cash. No car/truck payments = $3-600 extra in your bank account every month, say $5K/year. That is home purchase down payment $, or other investments. Rather than depreciating expenses such as new vehicles.

If you hang out with five millionaires, you will be millionaire number six.

If you hang out with six crackheads, you will be millionaire number six.

This is blunt, but as far as girls it’s basically all the same. So pick the one that will be a good wife, mother, and friend. Don’t get a fixer upper or settle for less because she’s good in bed.

As many folks have already stated saving and investing early is one of the most powerful and liberating things you can do to set yourself apart and ahead of 99%. Attributed to Einstein: Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it... he who doesn't, pays it."
That said,
at some point later in life you'll need to determine when you have "enough" and at some point you may end up with more money than health.

The above book is an alternate view of when and how to spend the money while you still have your health and the value of experiences over things, especially the experiences that you can share with family and friends.

I'm surprised how little traveling has come up, spending a year or two living on a shoestring budget traveling the world is something that gets harder to pull off by the year as you have more responsibilities pulling on you, and has the potential to change your life in ways you couldn't imagine, you will be uncomfortable, but you will have a real worldview, and a much better perspective on what you want to do with your life...

I know it sounds crass, but until you are talking about marriage, and are on the same page about money, religion, and child raising, the following maxim holds true.

She is not your girlfriend, it is just your turn.

You are going to level up MULTIPLE times in your life in career, looks and abilities from where you are right now. You will eclipse what you think are unattainable goals. Don't let a girl hold you back from attaining a dream.

The best things in life are free (except kids... they're expensive as hell, but still totally worth it)
There's a time and a place to pack as much into life as you can and then some, and there are others where you should ditch the phone, ditch the crowd, hell ditch the book, and just go for a long silent hike for a few days/weeks/months. You'd be surprised who you are when you get back.
Comparison is the thief of joy. Someone will always be better, have more money, have a prettier wife, drive a faster car. Don't let that affect your happiness.
Learn how to be happy; it's something they don't teach and can take a long time to learn.
It's always easier to stay in shape than to get in shape.
