10-Year-Old Boy with Cancer Inducted into Army
March 09, 2011 01:05 AM EST
Ten-year-old Brennan Daigle wanted just one thing from his life -- to join the Army. Daigle was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2009 and has been battling with it ever since. This past February, doctors delivered the unfortunate news that there was nothing more they could do for Brennan and he only had a few weeks to live. His 10th birthday was quickly approaching on February 26th and had to be special.

Dreams Come True of Louisiana learned about Brennan’s illness and contacted his mother, Kristy Daigle. She told Becky Prejean, the director for Dream Comes True, that all her son wanted was to meet soldiers before his condition worsened. So Prejean made a few calls for a couple of soldiers to meet Brennan for his 10th birthday.

On the day of his birthday, forty soldiers and one National Guard Humvee showed up. The stood at attention as Brennan got out of his dad’s car and then shouted, “Happy Birthday, Brennan!” They gave Brennan and his friend a ride in the humvee. After the joy ride, he got to shake hands with every soldier. He was given various military gifts, such as a jacket with his name on the pocket. And finally, he got the one thing he wanted. The Army inducted Brennan as an honorary member.

This story is about bravery and inspiration. The soldiers and Brennan have shown bravery battling their different battles, yet they know what’s important. It’s about enjoying today, what’s in front of you, and for a moment letting go of what you can’t control. Brennan Daigle got that for one day -- he got to join the Army.

How awesome is that!

Hate to see kids have to go through that. I know from experience, as she has beat it for three years now and every day we have her is a blessing. Thanks for posting that.

That is an awesome story, I feel for that kid, it always bites to see a youngster go thrugh the that.
That guard unit should be commended as well.

I have a nephew that is 25 yrs old now tat had cancer when he was 10 yrs old. It brought tears to my eyes when I read this story and thought it should be shared. I know a lot of us have famly members who are survivors or who are battleing this aweful diease, I have had two cousins whom were sisters die in the last eight months. One was 50 the other 49, sure makes you think about hw short life really is.

Heartwarming story. And then we have idiots who picket and protest at soldiers funerals. Probably not knowing they have the right to be so stupid because of the sacrifices of some. Thankyou past, present and future veterans.
