My granddaughter at the zoo, some lady just walked up and put her boys on the cow. She wasn’t feeling friendly!

It is whatever type of rattlesnake we have in West Virginia. I moved here deathly afraid of running into one but this is only the third one I have seen in almost 30 years.

Timber rattler. It’s the only rattlesnake native to WVa, and they are often black or grayish in color like the one in the pic. They can also be more brownish.

Yeah apparently we have them in MA although they are incredibly rare.

They are here in NE Iowa and along the northern Mississippi. They get pretty big but are not very aggressive. They are pretty rare everywhere they exist I think. Down south they may call it a canebrake rattler.

I’ve had some inquiries on this photo. This is through a spotting scope from 2 summers ago up here in the White Mountains of Arizona…..public land. I believe there was over 44 bulls counted in this summer bachelor group.

Yeah apparently we have them in MA although they are incredibly rare.

Never saw a rattler growing up in MA. They were identified as inhabiting a local range we used to hike in frequently.
Thought you were relocating to Michigan?
