Opening day success! Mr.Ammo pulled the trigger (I'm a little jealous, I was across the valley not in elk but I'm very happy for a full freezer). For us, elk hunting is a team sport. My phone said I walked 14mi through snow - up to hunt, down to take down camp, hauled ALL of camp down to the truck (heavy!), up to the kill, 3 hours of cleaning and quartering, down to the car with the first load. I don't know what is wrong with all of us for loving this beautiful sufferfest of a sport!

Cool route up a ledgy mountain in the neighborhood, with wife and youngest son, then an evening sit with middle son. Nice day, but I'm ready for some real hunting weather...

Of all the hunters in Iowa this weekend, I think we had the fewest birds. But we had a good time and got a few.

A friend has a new dog. Just barely 1 yr old and maybe 25 lbs. He dis well, but he found heavy cattail and reed canary grass to be a bit daunting. Nothing a quick nap on my gunbarrels couldn't fix, however
