Found this fella as we walked through a creek and showed my kids. Told them its name “Rhymes with cute.”
First response I get from them? “That’s not cute, dad.”

This guy was in the middle of a battle with a tree swallow. Surprisingly, even in aerial combat, the swallow lost. I wasn't expecting to see a bluebird nesting over water, but this guy and his mate seemed to have a cavity in this stump. I wonder if they are at all successful in fledging any youngsters, or if cavites in flooded timber are just sink habitats. I'd be interested to figure that out.

At the time, I was trying, yet again, to catch a fish. This photo was taken from a canoe with a cell phone (and thus the poor quality). I was surpised that he let me get so close. For that matter, a couple of deer on the banks also let me get incredibly close. Apparently, I'm not very threatening when on the water.

Certainly, the fish did not find me dangerous, so there must be some truth to that.

Thanks @wllm the hat has seen it all. I wore it on a mountain goat hunt, for my daughters first fishing trip, countless other hikes, runs, and other fishing trips and hunts.

Whatever happened to a Sunday picture thread? Since no one else follows directions neither will I.

20 year anniversary trip to South Texas and our first Gulf fishing charter. It was a good day.
