Subaru questions

I have a 5.0 F150 I won't sell. 17mpg is subconsciously factored into hunting costs. It's two hours to a lot of our dove shoots. And obviously days to any western hunts.

I found a video on the yt of someone demonstrating an Rav4 with chains in mud. Seems like an expedient way to handle the situation when it arises.

Gonna hafta read up more on the 3.6r. That engine was part of what I found attractive considering towing. Not sure about mpgs vs an F150 when you tow with the Outback vs putting whatever in the bed of the truck.

Bumping this one back up. I have a ‘24 Crosstrek base model that I am heavily leaning towards taking to WY for my son and I to chase mule deer and pronghorn with in early October. My alternative is an 08 expedition that I’ve taken out there twice.

Crosstrek:
Pros-
Fuel economy getting there will be 12-15 mpg better than the expedition
Range on a full tank is over 100 miles more
Has a roof rack and hitch haul, so enough space for all of our gear
More comfortable on long trips

Cons
Not as rugged, and a little more concerned with damage on the backroads
Highway tires may not do as well as I want out there
Not as much space to sleep in if we want to get out of the wind overnight

I’m probably overthinking this, as o don’t plan to do any true off-roading, but the sleep space was a real thing last year when the winds were whipping overnight.

Any thoughts from my more experienced car hunting (not to be confused with “road hunting”) brethren?
