Need to get a new stove for a 12x17 wall tent in the next month. Plan on spending most of November in it at 8,000 to 9,000 ft....and if I keep it warm up there, my wife will come visit:D

Have just been using a small tin stove that was made for a much smaller tent. Anyone have any experiences ( good or bad ), with any particular types/brands:confused:

Not a horse guy, so weight is really not an issue.

Also, anyone use chunks of coal in thier stoves before? Got access to some and thought about giving it a try.

Cylinder stoves work pretty good. You'll need the larger model for a 12x17 tent.

That's the same stove we use in a 14X20 tent and it keeps it plenty warm.. just remember to burn good wood.. always Oak not aspen or pine.

Burned coal a few times.

A nice big lump will stay all night if you put it in a fire that is already going. Seemed to be terribly dirty in the tent from the coal soot. All our gear smelled like coal instead of wood.

Didn't seem any harm, we quit doing it as it did not seem worth the effort of messing with.

Appreciate the responses and info ( both on and off line ),

Narrows the shopping for sure

If you can swing it, Cylinder Stoves pellet option looks like a good deal for keeping the tent warm through the night...FYI.
