With about 45 minutes of light left I glassed some elk at 775 yards. I watched them long enough to figure they weren’t getting any closer to me and made a perfect plan to cut the distance down to 200 YDS or so, I had great wind. I get maybe 500 YDS from them and hear some shots. The elk ball up in the open briefly and I get down to the edge of the timber I was in and deploy the bipod thinking they might run my way. They do not. So I go back to the truck which is not all the far away and drive down the road to see if the other guy who did the shooting needs any help with an elk. He’s there already, tells me no, he did not get one and further adds “I had no business shooting at those elk, they were pretty far, I was probably hitting the dirt”. I’m standing there being cordial while thinking well you probably know what I was thinking.

I almost had an easy cow and my B tag in the rear view mirror.
