Sorta curious. A few honest questions for the membership

I fairly knew to this forum. I had been a member of the 24hrcampfire since the beginning. Over 25 years.
Used to be that we were all friends, and could discuss personal topics without fear of reprisal.
Evidently the webmaster over there has decided he’s made enough money from it. He has in the past 5 or 6 years allowed a bunch of trolls and juvenile delinquents to take control. There’s a clique of about two dozen idiots who get to decide who is welcome to post, and what topics they’re allowed to discussi. They hide their own identities and bully folks from a freaking keyboard! LOL!
One guy, claiming to be a combat vet, even looked up my name and posted my police record, names and photos of my family, threatened me repeatedly and made veiled threats against my family living out of state. Posted photos of them and their hometowns. I don’t know he’s dangerous, but I don’t know he’s not.
I’m not about to put my loved ones at risk. For Christ sakes, I never imagined that sort of behavior over an Internet forum!
I’m a believing Christian. Any thread over there regarding religion is sure to draw unwanted attention. Most replies are personal insults, sexual harassment, and even some soft core porn pictures!
In a few years, when they figured out there’s no one who will hold them accountable, it became a cesspool nearly over night!
I’m not a compuker person at all. I can’t post a photo on a computer. But I can tune points ignition systems and carburetors. I can also tune a flintlock rifle for instantaneous (to a point) fire and accuracy!
With that said, accountability (and lack of) also applies to those in government. The idea of Republicans and Democrats is nothing but smoke and mirrors for public perception and to keep the sheeple voting. They’re nearly all uniparty, and anyone who is supporting MAGA is automatically designated as a threat to democracy!
There’s plenty of low hanging fruit that conviction for fraud and corruption is a slam dunk.
They’ll all get on CSPAN and ask questions. Thats as far as it goes!
there’s no investigation, no subpoenas, certainly no one held accountable!
I have thanked God above for the privilege of being born in this nation each day of my life. I truly believe I hit the birth jackpot being born when, where and to whom I was.
I have seen how this republic (never was a democracy) is going to die.
But I also believe I’m a dinosaur who has long outlived his sell by date too!
One last thought. You’re welcome to agree or disagree with what I have said. Your mileage is bound to be slightly different from mine! That’s what a free republic is designed for!
If you’re gonna have a problem with me, you’re going to have to make it.

There is some tribalism for sure but the moderators put a stop to stuff/posters that get out of hand pretty quickly. If you post helpful content with good pictures and stories to boot; not just asking for honey holes, you will be fine.

I joined the Campfire in February of 01. We had just got our first computer at Christmas in 2000. Me son was 14 at the time and he got me to join there!
Now if I had a computer with a kid using it, I would have that site blocked. It’s not for teenagers or ladies!
I can understand trolling to a point,some people are so full of themselves that it’s completely normal and downright fun to whiz them off!
But I have always had the opinion that if you wouldn’t say it across a table over a pitcher of beer or coffee, you probably shouldn’t say it in the interweb. I think that’s a pretty good rule of thumb for interacting with people in public. I kid my friends, but I DO NOT joke around with people I don’t know personally.

But these idiots count on being anonymous and their identity is hidden. This allows them to act like a bunch of Romper Room children an no Miss Patty to enforce the rules!
One certain individual over there had been trolling me in order for whiz me off. I complained to Rick, the webmaster and founder of the forum. He told me to ignore that guy. He must’ve said something to him. I got a one word PM that said “I’m done”.
That lasted a week. Then he went right back to being an axe hole!

Ignoring idiots does no good if they refuse to ignore you. If started a thread, regardless of topic I got the same response. Personal insults, sexual harassment, and soft core porno pictures!
I sent another PM complaining about it. That PM was never even opened.
And when these clowns figured out that the webmaster wouldn’t do anything, it went off the rails!
Like I said, a society needs to have certain standards and somebody to enforce those standards. Without it you end up with anarchy. The biggest bullies take over.

I got heck from everyone. My only crime was publicly stating that someone need to enforce the rules that we all agreed to follow when we joined. You’d have thought I had killed and eaten a live puppy!
There’s a big difference between having a moderator and censorship.

There are guys here that I’m sure don’t like each other including a few who probably think I’m an SOB. I haven’t seen any serious fights like you describe. Randy and his moderators do a great job of tossing troublemakers.
