Should I get a tag too?! Alberta Big Horn Sheep hunt

I'm moving back to the Bow Valley in couple weeks. Then I think I need to wait 12 months to become a resident before I can transfer my Ontario license to a Alberta license. Then I can have fun around the bow zone

changes to the wildlife act for 2025....
  1. Residency – to qualify as an Alberta resident, a hunter must have at least six months of primary residence in Alberta. This is in addition to existing requirements for Canadian permanent resident status or citizenship, or 12 months of residence in Canada preceding the relevant date.

The first few miles were not that bad, but a steady incline for sure. My buddy is a big dude, 6'5" and over 240, strong like a bull for sure and very determined. I have always snickered at the saying, " if you are gunna be dumb, you better be tough", and he's as tough as it gets....... lol.

Not saying he's dumb at all, he's smarter and more cunning than most of our group combined, 1000%. But he is always looking for ways to make things easier on himself, which in the end is a big part of this story. His wife, bless her heart, was taking care her of her man and packed him a lunch meant for a trucker as I would later find out when I was in charge of cleaning out the packs at the end of the hunt......OMFG:oops:

To say his pack had a few amenities not normally seen in a sheep hunting pack is an understatement.

Two sandwiches, encased in their own glass, yes I said GLASS containers. One was Peanut butter and jam, and who doesn't have a sippy cup with milk in it for your peanut butter sammy......lol

2 full boxes of bullets, 40 shells plus what was hanging on his sling and gun......

He was struggling. He looked over at me when we were sucking wind going up this steep slope and I had an inclination he was done. I was in bad shape as well. "Have you ever done a marathon without training?!?!", I said. We all laughed but it was crunch time. We were about 2/3 up the slope the rams were possibly on and the thermals were not good for success if the rams hadn't moved.

I took a guy backpacking in the Sierras once, an 18-mile 3-day/2-night loop. First night in the tent after a long uphill to the lake, he is absolutely gassed, and he rips 6 Mountain House dinners, 3 pairs of blue jeans, and a full size down pillow out of his bag. I was rolling :ROFLMAO:

...sounds like your buddy was right to pack 40 rounds though, they were for you!

We start the process of quartering him up, caping him, and loading the packs. We got to the top of the hill right at dark and had to make the decent down in the dark. 5 grueling hours later, a few rolled ankles, a few tumbles and sliding down the steep parts on our buts we were back to my buddies truck. Another 2 hours back to mine and we pulled into McDonalds at 2am for some eats. When my son and I got home, 230 am, I could smell fuel bigtime and thought, man my truck must be running rich!!! 4 hours later its time to get up and go to work, I have a 2 hour drive that day for a meeting and I stop to get fuel. As I am fueling up, I decide to walk around the back end of my truck and all I can see is gas cascading out from under my truck!!!! WTF!!! I look under my truck and there is a perfect hole in my gas tank!!! Some MF is gunna die!! I run inside the fueling station and asked for a spill kit! Run outside and place it under my truck. I grab all of the "kitty litter" absorbent and start spreading it on the spill, at this moment the spill was three times the size of my truck and starting to run off site.....here is pic of the hole........Unreal!!!!

so what did you do about the hole? Did it happen while you were hunting the ram or later? Did you call the cops?

Congratulations on a great hunt. I appreciate your telling us the truth as to what happened after the shots. Things don’t always work out perfectly after the trigger is pulled. It has happened to me and probably many others here on the forum. You and your team did the right thing and kept after it. You sir are a stand- up individual !!
