While I support folks right to own them, they present a PR problem on a regular basis. I don't know how to rationalize that in my own mind.

I'd say the same for Pit Bulls, and Truck nuts..

Black guns fall strictly under the "tool" category. They're the ones I wouldn't mind losing if I had to do something I don't want to do with it, then relinquish it over to the police.
