RIP ?

I believe I've told this story before but one more time can't hurt. My uncle owned a honky tonk in Paris TX called Robert Allen's in the 80s and 90s. Toby keith, cross Canadian ragweed, and Mr David Allen Coe all played regularly at his bar and more. My uncle and David bonded over a shared love of womanizing, hard drinking, and booger sugar. One year Mr Coe attended my uncle's Christmas eve party and proceeded to get rip roaring drunk until he had to be escorted to a couch in the den where he could lie down. In this den was their family Christmas tree and gifts all arranged for the next morning. When my aunt went back in to check on him there was a yell then she angrily shouted BOB my uncle's name. Mr Coe had opened the majority of the gifts until he found his Goldie locks a hillshire farm sausage and cheese set. He had apparently eaten the set and passed back out. RIP you crazy SOB!

What a great story!!!

Is it possible for people to just not have an opinion on things anymore? Or does everyone feel the need to have one and share?

My wife’s maiden name is Coe.
She once burned her finger and said ‘dangit’!
I lost a lot of respect for that lineage that day.

Some of his stuff was a bit rough so I avoided it, but, I listen regularly to a couple songs you can find on radio. The one song is truly perfect. If that ain’t country…

I saw him live about 15 years ago at a small casino bar. It wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t the worst. He was edgy and I liked that. Waylon was never a a big fan of him. I always felt like he was trying too hard to portray an image instead of just letting his music do the talking. Super talented song writer and his singing voice especially spoke to me. RIP

I have a fun DAC story…

My buddy runs a promoting business and gets some pretty good acts to our area. The very first was DAC, back in 2009.
My buddy recruited me and a bunch of other guys to work security, manage the doors, ushering etc.
I was in back for the opener- The Jimmy Van Zant Band- but got pulled to the front for David’s set as things were getting rowdier. I lucked out and ended up in the VIP area- stage right- and the VIP I hung out with… David’s mother-in-law, who was his age or maybe a touch older, and along for the tour… but his wife was not.
She was a sweet ole southern gal, with stories about going on other tours with DAC… she was with when David toured with Uncle Kracker and Kid Rock… “Kracker was a sweetheart… Kid Rock was a piece of ****”
Anyway, during the show, David would basically turn and stare and sing directly at her for long stretches, which was honestly quite weird, and she leaned over to me and said “You see how he keeps staring over here? He’s pissed off at me because he wants me to f*** him and I won’t! I won’t f*** that old bastard!”
David Allan Coe in a nutshell
