Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

Trapping is slowly going away everywhere. It’ll slowly get voted out in every state. Trapping is not popular even with other hunters.
I agree it is fading away as a whole. However lots of guys who practice QDM around here bring in coyote trappers every late winter/ealry spring. So do a lot of duck clubs for raccoons in the spring. More so in recent years than ever before. I realize thats a small sample though.

There are people who think shooting an animal or catching a fish is stressful to the animal or fish. The same goes for any livestock. Maybe we should harvest plants only.

I appreciate their attempts, but there are a lot of references to studies without any links. I have a hard time imagining it's not stressful.
Which is why most places have check times to avoid too much time going by. But each critter varies...some dont struggle much at all until the trapper comes to check.

Personally I have more heartburn over kill sets and nontarget captures. Id like to hunt with dogs in December but when the 220s for cats show up I have to leave the dog at home. We allow ground sets here a dog can get its head in, even baiting with game bird parts...and hunting dogs have been killed where I hunt.

I dont know if ill ever have the time to dive in right, but a grandson is very into it now so well see.

I'm sure if I had more exposure I'd have a different take
Maybe, maybe not. I have a lot of respect for guys that trap and are successful while doing it according to regulations. It's hard and requires a lot of dedication. I also will not oppose another outdoorsman for doing what they enjoy. mtmuley image000000(8).jpg

Stress responses (i.e. elevated cortisol, glucose, lactate etc) in fish post-capture have been pretty thoroughly studied. Not saying we all need to start munching bean sprouts, but denying the existence of any stress/impact doesn't do us any good either. Worth examining so we at least know what we are actually doing on an individual level. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the same questions about trapping.

Great lakes wolves, running them with hounds is pretty hard to beat. Mountsin wolves and wolves in 1 mile sections of ag/timber is two totally different worlds though.
That pic is one season. Not sure if they were done. I know another guy that kills a lot of wolves. He traps and rifle hunts them. mtmuley
